KD Ladies Turf Goes to a Hard Closing My Girl Makita

KD Ladies Turf – Grade III

1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $750.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st     My Girl Makita       Smokey Stover     Gutierrez Mario

The fast pace certainly suited a closer but whereas others were trying to thread their way through and some were forced wide this one managed to succeed where others failed and found her way home by a half length. She was a hugely promising three year old and has once again been consistent this year but this is the sort of result that will set her up nicely for another go at the BC and she looks like she is more than ready to improve on her fifth place last year.
This is another great result for Ginger Haggis the sire of this exciting filly.

2nd     Phoe Eva          Angelos Stable        Carrasco V R

Finished off nicely and this continued her improvement from being a cheap claimer last year to a consistent stakes quality mare this year. She may need another run to insure she gets in the BC but she will have every chance if she does make the field.

3rd      Notorious Crown      Mb Stables       Jaramillo E

Only a half length back in third this was the sort of effort that only Mb can get out of a filly that looked out of her depth on paper. This was only the fourth route for this sprinter and she has won two and finished third in this big ticket grade three, it does make you wonder why she doesn’t stretch out more often.

4th      Hawaii County      Mb Stables        Hernandez C J

Made the running but it was far too strong and she couldn’t keep it up for the whole mile. Ending up fourth this was a good effort considering her draw and attacking tactics.
