The Lake George – Grade III
1 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $175.000 Filly 3 Year Olds.
My apologies if this review comes up at the same time as the preview but the later drawing schedule of this race coupled with a heavy personal schedule in the real world meant that I only managed to post the preview 24 hours ago. So hopefully you will read both and the result here will make more sense. Here is how the prize money was dished out:
1st Raw And Real Mb Stables Prat F
Well, this filly proved that at the end of the day the best form is the best form especially when it is owned by the great Mb Stables. A graded stakes winner with no penalty she has been going very well this year and out of all the possible front runners she was chosen by the race engine and got the job done. The lead was contested early on but by halfway she had asserted and had the required margin to hold on in the inevitable rush to the line. I am not sure this is the best filly in the barn, but she is exactly the sort that everyone wants to own, consistent, tough and plenty of the race engines favored early speed.
Bred by Boulevard and acquired for $11.000 she also goes to prove once again that you don’t have to be the biggest breeder in the game with the hyped stallions to breed a very good horse.
2nd Gaga D J C Racing Stables Franco M
I thought I had called the old HRP hack right with this one, but a combination of the wide draw and the slightly off track was just enough to slow her finish and she couldn’t get to the winner in time. Having her first ever turf start it goes to prove once again that most horses really don’t care what surface they are on at HRP, and she ran up to her best dirt form and maybe even did a little better. I think this one is only a bit of luck short of a big win and I hope she eventually gets her chance.
3rd = Sneaky Panther Nakamura Stables Lezcano J
She led all the way to win last time but decided to go back today, possibly because of the off track, maybe she was instructed to, but either way she reverted to a previous running style which had seen similar efforts. I actually think she did really well to get a share of third in the end and this career best effort was an improvement that the trainer will have enjoyed and noted.
3rd = Broadway Lady Arindel Velazquez J R
It surprised me that none of the wider gates were asked to go to the front by their trainers or the race engine and that took the pressure off the winner. This one drawn widest of all was one that had performed on an off track before, so I half expected her to take the lead but instead she took the stalk. This could have been because she hasn’t been the strongest at the end of her routing races but even trying to save some of her energy failed to help that problem as once again, she failed to quicken up at the end of the race, A share of third was just a pass mark today.
