The Memories of Silver Draws Eight

In just its fourth time here at AQU, this field of three year old fillies will try to add the Memories of Silver to their resume. Spur Winged Goose ( Hunterman Stable ) seems to have a slight edge after making the switch this season to the turf. Is coming off a victory in the $75.000 Lacombe Memorial, and her trainer is hoping to “bag” this event as well.

  In previous years of the Silver, winners were all coming to this event with grass experience to their credit, some with stakes experience, some without. But they all earned a majority of their career victories over this surface.

Lets have a look at Friday’s field and see if we can find the standouts;

The top three standouts in my opinion are Spur Winged Goose, Heavenly Love ( D J C Racing Stables ) and Princess Street ( Princess Street Stables ). As mentioned earlier, Spur Winged Goose is coming off a victory in the Lacombe, and a runner-up placing in her previous affair. Has three smart works over this oval in preparation, most recently a 1:10 and two for three quarters. Heavenly Love closed out last season with a near victory in the Grade III Durante Stakes, closing to within a head of the eventual winner. The show money winner from that event has come back to win two Graded titles, and runner-up in two more. Deserves merit for her effort in that one. As for Princess Street, this lightly raced grey broke her maiden two starts ago, but did it in such timely fashion. She earned a 92 SRF speed figure as well. Her most recent was over a soft surface, and while she attempted to stay upfront early to avoid the grass being tossed her way, the surface finally caught up with her placing her back in the field.

The next grouping could be the upsetters of this event if the meters and instructions are on the money. Big Bag ( Mb Stables ) made the switch at the end of last season, and while the five and a half furlong was a little too short two starts ago, her most recent found her in the winners circle against Alw43 company. Her SRF numbers have been on the rise with each event, and she did post a 1:10 and one here April 1st. Trying not to overlook other talent here, I would say Major Ballerina ( Court Jester Racing ) is looking to fight gamely here. Stepped away from the grass for two starts, and it looked like she may have wanted to stay on the dirt, but a nice work of 1:35 and three here on the tenth may have swayed her trainer to compete in this event. She is the only one of the group to have two wins on the turf. Another who may convince some backers at the window could be Pink Art ( First Class Stables ), who has competed at this distance twice at the Fairgrounds, and her final times were quite decent. She posted a 1:10 flat here at AQU back on the 27th of March. She seems to be taking this event quite seriously to put on a good showing.

Not to be outdone by the previously mentioned groups, but the final two will be Di Leigh ( Gdp Inc ) and Godofdestiny ( Mfm Stables ). Di Leigh is coming off a Md50.000 victory against a smaller field of four at Gulfstream. Her last two have been over off track surfaces, and at present the turf is listed as good, with isolated showers in the forecast for Friday. As for Godofdestiny, she is still looking for a maiden victory. All five of her career starts have come over the grass, and trainer has readded a shadow roll in hopes she will possibly get to the line a little bit earlier.

Duffers picks 8-1-6, off track give the edge to Heavenly Love.
