Trainer: Invicta Group LLC Invicta has kept Hines Ward busy this season, and his form shows a horse who always shows up but rarely dominates at this level. His 2026 campaign (7:1‑3‑1) is honest, and his recent SAR 7f run (97 fig) was one of his best efforts, showing early speed and resilience. He tends to flatten late at a mile, and his works at FNO—1:37, 1:36—are steady rather than sharp. Invicta’s horses are typically fit and forward, but this one may be a touch below the top contenders in raw ability.

1 — Hines Ward

Verdict: Reliable, fit, but needs everything to fall his way. He does draw the inside though and that will help him stay on the pace giving him a chance of top three.

2 — Hurricane Ridge

Trainer: The Sidley Stud Sidley is one of the most powerful barns in the game, and Hurricane Ridge is a typical example: tough, seasoned, and consistently competitive in graded company. His form this year is excellent—G3 placings at WO, CD, TAM, and a strong 101 fig in the BldVen-G3. He’s been kept sharp with two identical 1:23 PRX 7f works, signalling intent and readiness. Sidley’s horses often peak when shipping into PRX, and this one looks primed.

Verdict: Top-class form, elite trainer, superb works. Major player although maybe his best form has been over sprint trips. The draw however will save his energy and if the pace is sluggish he could control this race.

3 — Knowledge Is Good

Trainer: Mo Mentum Farm Mo Mentum has campaigned this horse ambitiously, and his form over longer distances is strong. He’s run 94–100 figs repeatedly at 1 1/8–1 1/4, though the mile may be sharper than ideal. His recent BEL 5f in 1:00 and DMR 1m in 1:37 show he’s fit, but not blistering. Mo Mentum’s horses usually finish strongly, and this one will be grinding late rather than showing early punch.

Verdict: Strong router form and solid works. He is a good option here but he can be a bit hit and miss, sometimes he kicks on from on the pace, sometimes he just whacks away. There is plenty of early speed in this race so he will have to get this tactically right.

4 — Term Limits

Trainer: TwinTowersRacing TwinTowers is known for producing tough, durable 3yos, and Term Limits fits the mould. His form is respectable—Derby trail efforts with mid‑90 figs—but he has not yet shown the sharpness needed for a mile stakes. His works are eye-catching, especially the 58 at MTH, which is blistering. The barn often gets horses to peak suddenly, but his race form suggests he may still be learning how to finish against older horses.

Verdict: Brilliant works, but race form is inconsistent. Upside but risky but then that pretty much sums up the types of entries this barn has. I like the weight allowance he gets here and I liked his TX Derby win, the biggest question for me is where he ends up in running. If he is taken too far back he may find a few too quick but if he can find a slot not too far off the speed then he could win this.

5 — Cheap Ways

Trainer: Mb Stables This is the horse with the most compelling combination of form + works + trainer. Mb Stables is the most dominant stable in the game, and Cheap Ways has thrived since joining them. His 2026 form (6:4‑0‑1) is exceptional, and his speed figures (96–102) are elite. The works are sensational: PRX 6f in 1:10, DMR 5f in :58, and a DMR mile in 1:35. Mb Stables typically improves horses immediately after purchase, and this one looks like he’s been sharpened specifically for this race.

Verdict: Best works in the field, top trainer, top form. The horse to beat. He was purchased from Riggins Racing less than a month ago for just $40 so looks a bargain on paper, if Mb has him right he looks the top choice.

6 — Keto

Trainer: Family Racing Family Racing has done a good job developing Keto into a consistent mid‑90s performer. His form this year is solid, including a 97 fig in the Westch-G3 and a strong mile run at DMR. His works are excellent—PRX 6f in 1:10, MTH 6f in 1:10, and a PRX mile in 1:36—showing he’s peaking at the right time. The barn is not as powerful as Sidley or Mb, but they place horses well and get them fit.

Verdict: Excellent works, improving form, dangerous if pace is strong. The stable has been in great form recently and going on his works this one is riding the crest of the wave. He may try and use the wide gate speed push to lead and if he gets there in good time and can control the pace he could well make all.

Race Summary:

This is an interesting race. On paper it could be close but there is a lot of speed in this race and the first two furlongs could settle the result. Low 22’s and something sitting off the speed may be able to pick them off, high 22’s and the leaders may fight it out. Cheap Ways is an obvious choice for the mere reason that Mb Stables seems to be picking off a majority of the stakes races these days and his have a way of finding the front and having things go right. He is not a forgone conclusion though and if a horse like Keto can run to his works he could be a big danger. I am finding it hard to settle on one outstanding runner here so may wait to see if the odds monkeys can offer any ridiculous starting prices.
