The Queens Plate Stakes
1 1/4 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $1,000.000 Open 3 Year Olds Foaled In Canada.
The first nine were covered by two lengths so this was as close as I expected it to be.
There are plenty of hard luck stories in this race, but then there always is in these big
fields, and it is hard to say any of the first 9 couldn’t change the tables on a different
day.
1st Spirits Reward, trained by Big Guns Stable
I am pretty sure that winning from the outside gate would’ve been impossible a month
ago, but this rapidly improving home bred made it look easy, travelling wide for the
entire race and still having plenty left at the end. He won the Plate Trial from the
one box and has now won the Plate from the fourteen which is a quite amazing and pretty
unique feat. The sky must be the limit now for this son of Reward, which was bred by his
unassuming and universally popular trainer.
2nd Connectivity, trained by BigKing
He again looked a great buy by his owner, beaten less than length in this premier race.
Close up at the mile mark, he just got out stayed at the end, but with only seven races
behind him he should be expected to keep improving.
3rd Scott The Great, Trained by Night Mare Racing
Came from nowhere to be a close third, but it was too late for the win. He had beaten
the winner last time in The Queenston Stakes, but couldn’t confirm that form today. Never
the less, this was a major run, and considering he only broke maiden a few months back,
he is definatly making up for lost time.
4th Copper Opus, trained by Big Guns Stable
The winning stable’s other runner, he came late to be fourth in what was a great day for the
trainer. He looks like a confirmed deep closer, which will make life tough for him, but this
run was right back to his pre KYD best, and his future looks bright enough.
