I am sure the trainer fully expected this win based on this fillies good works but for the rest of us we saw a filly that had never raced in graded company before and was beaten in an optional claimer the last time she raced over this trip. Her only black type in an ungraded stakes resulted in a dead heat in a 4 runner field but today facing grade one company she won pretty easily in the end by a length. The best of us will be left to ponder this fairly random looking result whereas the trainer will march on with a filly who has finally found her mojo and did it from the rather unfavorable seven box. So how does she weigh up against other grade one winners, well i guess we will only know when she runs next. Congratulations to the trainer who hasnt hurried this homebred filly and will now lok to reap the benefits.

You can see the clicks of the mouse and the race engine at work with this filly as today she decided or was made to race up on the speed, the complete opposite to when she raced from a wide draw in The Alabama last time. The result however was the same, beaten a length, although this time she managed second rather than fourth. I really like what this filly is about, she always runs her race from any draw and with any running style. One feels that she is more than capable with a bit of luck and some race engine kindness she may just be the long shot in the BC.

I think at the end of the day this filly ran just about where she was capable of running even though on a different day she may be able to finish in front of the first two. She closed up nicely and looked to be going well but her lack of a finishing kick was evident again and she just whacked away for third. Not a bad start for the new owner who made about 25% of her auction price back today.

I didn’t give either of this trainers filly’s much chance in my preview for this race but they did a great job to get them both in paying positions at long odds. I would’ve bet my house that Charo would beat these two stable runners but that just goes to show how unpredictable stakes racing can be.
