Sweet Sweat Closes Late to Capture Breeders Futurity

Whenever the combination of Mb Stables and R Bejarano hook up in an event, you always need to keep a keen eye on the entry. Sweet Sweat added his name to the BC Juvenile list with his victory here at Keeneland this weekend, as did High One ( Gdp Inc ) who took home the Champagne over at Belmont.

  • Breeders Futurity- Grade I ( BC) Purse $400.000
  • Keeneland- For Two Year olds
  • One Mile and One sixteenth distanceMain track

It seems that Mb Stables needs to name all his horses with double “s” names to find a winner. Having already placed chestnut Spirited Stride into the BC Juvenile, he now has found a place their as well with Sweet Sweat. The two runners sit one/two on the Juvenile list, with Sweet Sweat just a little better in career earnings then his stablemate.

The son of top sire Cherokee Sunset was held in check early on in this event back in eighth, then was asked to pick up the pace entering the far turn. He would eventually find the front by the sixteenth pole as he pulled alongside pacesetter Yankee Doodle Dandy ( John Henry ) and Estero Farms Better Party. Outside runner Stark ( D J C Racing Stables ) was closing brilliantly to the wire.

The victory is now Sweet Sweat’s fourth in six starts this season, and only missed a payout last time in the DMR Futurity. Trainer will definitely be looking to get this horse/jockey combo back together again next month.

Content to stay near the back of the pack early on with Peachtree ( Smokey Stover ), Stark would find the rail coming onto the backstretch. Jockey Beschizza was well focused on Sweet Sweat down the backstretch run and would leave the rail entering the far turn and would be placed directly behind that runner entering the turn for home. Made a brilliant effort to try to get up late for the victory, but was a length shy. He now sits eleventh in the Juvenile standings.

The show money was awarded to Better Party who was able to get up ahead of the front runner Yankee Doodle Dandy by the line. His efforts have placed him 14th on the BC Juvenile list with just three starts this season. Yankee Doodle Dandy looked to take this event on top, but grabbed the minor share. His efforts have him sitting in 22nd with his lone single BC point.

Rounding out the event were Magical Emperor ( La Canada Racehorses )in fifth place narrowing nipping out both Tornado Force ( Waldo ) and Sexy Back ( Night Rider Stables ) at the line. Eighth went to Bound Bay ( Gdp Inc.) who also was caught up in a trio by the wire with Peachtree and Midnight Lightning ( South Beach Racing ). The final pairing would consist of Iron Return ( LionKing Stables ) and Nice Dip ( Rampage Stable )
