Three Year Olds

A field of thirteen three year olds has been entered up for the first ever running of the SAR Derby which is the second race in the New York Turf Triple. The winner is not back for this leg of it but the third place finisher from that day is. Let’s take a look at the field.

1. Unamerican (8-2-4-1 $204.900), trained by Fractious

And here we have the first runner in the field making a big jump in distance as he just ran third in the grade one Jaipur at six furlongs. He ran very well that day but they are going three and half furlongs farther in here. If he likes the distance he could have a good chance.

2. Face Your Fears (11-3-2-1 $295.850), trained by Mb Stables

The first of three runners for Mb Stables right here as he is coming into this race off of a seventh place finish in the grade one Belmont Derby. He was far back that day and didn’t have much of a kick for some reason. I think he is a lot better than his previous race.

3. Wired Up (6-2-0-1 $272.000), trained by Rampage Stable

Another one that is coming out of the grade one Belmont Derby right here and this horse ran a very good third place finish in that race. He was closing pretty well that day and if he runs that same race he could definitely be able to win in this race.

4. Manifestation (8-3-2-3 $133.850), trained by Arindel

This next runner looks like an interesting entry to me as I think he is going to like this extra half a furlong quite a bit. He has been closing late in his last two but he has ran out of ground both times. The extra distance will help I think and I think he could hit the bottom of the board.

5. Bold Glitter (7-1-0-1 $31.600), trained by Estero Farms

The least earning runner in the field right here is coming into this race off of a sixth place finish in the grade two Dixie at Pimlico. He is coming into this race off of quite of a layoff but Estero Farms must think he is capable if he is wheeling him into this race.

6. Its A Laugher (8-1-1-1 $61.460), trained by Fractious

This next horse in the field is coming into this race off of a second place finish in an optional claimer at Woodbine. He ran a pretty good race that day but he is making a very big jump up in class in this race so I don’t know how he will compete with this field.

7. King Niagra (10-2-1-3 $265.600), trained by John Henry

Well this horse will be making his first ever career start on the turf in this race. He has been trying the graded stakes runners on the dirt but he has not had any luck. His works are pretty decent but he has never ran on the turf so not sure what he will do.

8. Serpico (10-3-3-1 $116.700), trained by TwinTowers Racing

This horse is making a jump up in class also as he has only been running in small stakes races all over the place. He has been running decent in them but he just cannot seem to get a win in them. He looks a little bit outclassed in here to me.

9. Soviet Warrior (12-3-2-2 $194.800), trained by Mb Stables

The second of three runners from the Mb Stables barn is coming into this race off of a second place finish in the grade three Kent Stakes at Delaware Park. He ran a decent race that day but he will have to run better than that to have a chance at winning this one.

10. Hefner (12-2-3-4 $268.300), trained by Mb Stables

And the final runner for Mb Stables is coming into this race off of a win in the grade two King Edward BC Stakes at Woodbine where he beat older horses. If he can repeat that performance he definitely has a good chance to win in here and he will be tough.

11. Grandiose (11-1-2-2 $115.660), trained by D J C Racing Stables

This next horse in the field comes in here for the wizard and he just ran a not so good seventh in the grade two Penn Mile but I think that was because of the good turf course. If it is a firm turf course I think he could have an alright chance in here.

12. Sumi Gaeshi (6-2-1-1 $90.400), trained by Maxmillion Farm

And now to this horse who is coming into this race off of a third place finish in the grade one United Nations against older horses at Monmouth Park. He ran a very good race that day and if he can run that race again he could definitely be able to win it.

13. Dodger Blue (10-3-2-2 $142.340), trained by RNP Stables

And finally the last horse in the field right here and he is coming into this race off of a statebred stakes win right here at Saratoga almost two weeks ago. A quick turnaround and big jump up in class plus the tough post is all factors going against him.

Summary

Well it is a big competitive field so a lot of racing luck is going to be needed to win this race. I think the top choice in here is Sumi Gaeshi but he has to overcome a very tough post. If he can get a good trip he will be tough in here. Good luck to all in the field.
