Spring in Lexington… ain’t no place finer.  So we head over to KEE and look at the field for the Beaumont (GIII) with ramifications to the KYO and this seven furlong extended sprint looks as wide open as a spring-time front door.  I think there are more questions than answers in this one so let’s rely on the Green Card for the selections today.  That sheet went with Charloff as the top choice, and she’s never seen stakes company in her life.  She won for a $14.000 tag, then came back to just miss vs. Alw horses on the GG turf.  The second choice on the sheet is Last Lady, another that should come with good odds.  She only has three starts and was tagged for $8.000 two starts back.  Won for the new connections at HAW and goes to the deep end of the pool. The third pick over there is Red Parasite and that one looked good winning the Amazon Stakes at DMR before getting into traffic and ending up ninth in the Davona Dale (GII).

Here’s the Field –

1
   Rotation    Fractious    Davis D   120   9/2

Solid type that looked good in a near miss last out a GP running second in the Any Limit, going six furlongs.  She’s won three of eight lifetime and struggled to be sixth in the Demoiselle (GII) at AQU back in Dec., and she needs to do better than that to get involved here.  Can she improve?

2
Not A Big Deal    Mb Stables    Jaramillo E   120   4/1

When she’s good, she’s great and when she’s bad… well, it ain’t pretty.  She won five in a row as a 2yo including the Sorority (GII), DMR Debutante (GI) and Alcibiades (GI), over this surface.  She was eleventh on BC Day and last of twelve last out in the Davona Dale (GII).  So what do we get today?

3
   Last Lady    Lindeman Prairie    Bahen S R   120   5/1

She’s won two in a row including an OptAlw race at HAW last out so she looks to have been a sharp claim for just $8.000, but this is an acid bath.  That was a very quick time so maybe if they don’t tell her where they are, she just runs them into the ground.

4
   Red Parasite    Threshold    Beschizza A   120   9/2

Outrun in the Davona Dale (GII) after a pair of wins including the Amazon Stakes at DMR and she’s won three of seven starts so she knows how to get the job done.  She has to improve off of that last out effort to be part of the festivities here.

5
Ragin Red    Ace Racing Stable    Smith M E   120   8/1

Won an Alw race at FG to kick-off the year but it’s been tough sledding since.  Last in the Forward Gal (GIII) and then fourth and fifth at the OptAlw level so she needs to turn it around against a field like this.

6
This One Is Fast    Patterson Stables    Ryan S   120   8/1

Broke maiden then third vs. stakes company, both at CD.  Since then it’s been a long road including a last of twelve performance in her most recent in the Southwest (GIII) where they put her in with the boys.  Can she bounce back returning to the female ranks?

7
   Charloff    TwinTowersRacing    Gaffalione T   120   10/1

Broke maiden at BEL on the grass and won for a tag down at GP before going out west to run second in a turf sprint at GG.  She has some speed, that’s for sure, so do they send her and try to upset this?

8
   Fantasy Command    Tiratzo    Bridgmohan S X   120   7/1

Her only bad race came vs. graded types in the Santa Ynez (GII) where she beat two horses that afternoon.  Two wins, with a runner-up and fourth place finish, those two vs. NY-bred stakes company.  She will need her best today.

9
Molly Cat    First Street Stables    Bejarano R   120   5/1

Three wins from nine starts and she’s been close in a couple of stakes outings… third in the Sandpiper at TAM then fourth in the Santa Ysabel (GIII) at SA in her most recent.  Her best could land her in contention and she may come at a price.

  1. Cautiously optimistic here. It seems This One Is Fast has trouble breaking well and missed it completely last out before the tweak was made to the engine regarding same instructions. With a clean break I’d expect to make the money given she isn’t “cooked” or over the hill…which perhaps she is, I have no clue. Fun game! Best of luck to the other owners.
