Three’s May Dominate PRX Dirt Mile

PRX Dirt Mile
PRX Race #10 1m Dirt Stake
Purse $200.000 For Three Year Olds And Upward.

1 Soho Jackman Allinthegate Bridgmohan S X

These state bred races whilst carrying decent purses aren’t usually full of superstars so it does bring some of the lesser lights into play. This is just the type that deserves a shot at a race like this, a solid over-nighter who has run well enough at this level to make his presence felt and gets in with a good draw and no penalties. His works are solid and he has age and experience on his side. A chance.

2 Beach Xaar Fractious Laprida J

There is no doubting this four year old has a touch of class as he showed when winning a similar stakes race at the start of the year so the 2Lb penalty may not be the death penalty it seems. He is hard to weigh up on dirt as it has been a long time since he has run on it but if this was run on grass he would be one of the favorites and as this is HRP the surface wont mean as much as in real life. He could win but he is a bit of an unknown and therefore a risky proposition.

3 Divine Action Choppy Inc. Rodriguez A R

Gets a penalty for a win in a $50 ungraded stakes which isn’t a great place to start but he shouldn’t be overlooked on that evidence alone. The fact that he has won 3 from 5 this year with two of them being ungraded stakes and is working very fast suggests that he may be looking to break out pretty soon and a win here could just start that ball rolling. A nice draw, suited by the trip and on the up make him a winning chance even with a penalty.

4 Neon Delite Smokey Stover Espinoza V

Gets the three year old weight break and it is at the 4Lb’s so that makes him a serious chance regardless of his form which is actually pretty good. A winner of four from nine he has only been tested once and that was in the grade one Stephens where he ran far better than his finishing position suggested running on from a long way back to be seventh beaten just two lengths. His preferred running style may not be suited by the size of the field so Smokey will have to work some magic but he is a definite winning chance.

5 Space Commander Nakamura Stables Conner T

Undoubtedly the class horse of the field with over 3K in prize money he escapes without penalty here which isn’t bad for a 3 time grade one winner and a BC Classic runner up. There has been a definite decline in his form this year but even if he is a few lengths off his best that still may be good enough.

6 Rex Sanchez Greeko Holdem Velazquez J R

This is just the sort of three year old that would have won this race a few years back but the three year olds were given a little pull on the HRP reins recently and their development has been a little more stunted in recent years. That makes things tough for this one race winner who has only raced four times but on his last effort in a decent Allowance he has got much better things to come. Whether this race has come too soon remains to be seen.

7 Shoot To Kill Luz International Luzzi L J

Ridden and trained by Mr Luzzi he was claimed from another jockey recently and gets thrown in here thanks to a lightening 1.10 and 1 six furlong work. Third in a grade three in March he is certainly good enough and just sometimes a change in stable brings a miracle trip up their improvement curve. One to keep an eye on for sure and if there are odds available i may be tempted with an each way bet.

8 Living In The Matrix TwinTowersRacing Jaramillo E

Another three year old who seems OK on both surfaces i have a feeling this one is about to run a big race. I think ultimately he needs further than this mile but the 4Lbs makes him an attractive proposition on his 1.36 and 3 mile work and his form looks to be a little camouflaged by his variety of trips and surfaces. The surprise package.

9 I Call Shotgun Night Rider Stables Elliott S

This trainer always likes to throw them in with a hail mary shot and this ones chances whilst hazy on exposed form may be better than they look as he has always been a good worker and if anyone can find a length it s this trainer. He has never won over a route trip but did win one of those big ticket maidens at SAR at three and has run some decent races at four. A chance if not an obvious one.

10 Dellas Boy Alydar Stables Pennington F

Another three year old with some good works and decent form the draw will be his main rival here but if he can overcome it represents a decent hope. A game winner of the Elgin last time he ran well enough in the Stephens and The Amsterdam to suggest he has a class gene but does get a penalty for the stakes win which along with the draw make this a tough race for him.

11 Rent Free Mb Stables Saez L

The final runner and situated in the car park is the Mb Stables runner. I must admit the three’s in this race do look very similar so the fact that he is wide may be the biggest factor in his chances. I liked his win over this trip last time in a very fast time and he was considered good enough for a crack at the TC which ended abruptly when handed another terrible draw in the SUN Derby. A chance if the race engine works for him out here but he will need things to go his way.

SUMMARY

The three’s look tough here with the best of the others getting weight penalties. If Space Commander comes back to his best he wins by open air but i am not convinced and was pretty disappointed with his last work. Neon Delite gets the best draw of the three’s and that is probably enough to make him top pick but rather like Living The Matrix to get some at long odds and Shoot To Kill may actually turn out to be the best of the older horses.
