Too Scared To Party, the post time favorite and my top selection today, seems to know when to turn on the after-burners… when the money is on the line.  Outrun in the early part of The Long Island (GIII) the black 3yo filly knows that it ain’t over until they go under the finish line, as she closed down the lane to go in front by three-quarters of a length on the wire, taking her second graded win since be purchased back in July.  Sweetness closed fast as well but had to settle for the second spot, a half length in front of the dead-heat duo of Rules Are Madness and Marbles Blitz.  The final running time was 2:12.17 for the mile and three eighths, on the firm AQU turf.

Nine went to the gate with the early scratch of Unmistakable, and as they got away in good order, the field made their way to the first turn in this three turn route with Number Nine on the early lead, Deep Atonement on her outside, Chances Taken on her inside, then Marbles Blitz to the far outside, Holualoa on the rail, Tightrope Walker was next, Rules Are Madness on her flank, Sweetness, and Too Scared To Party was away slowest of all.

Around the far turn and into the lane the first time by, they had seven and a half furlongs to run and Number Nine had a neck in front of Marbles Blitz, a length and a half back to Deep Atonement in the three path, Holualoa on the rail, Chances Taken next to that one, then a length back to Sweetness, another length to Rules Are Madness, then the trailing duo of Tightrope Walker and Too Scared To Party, six lengths from front to back.

Continued thru the lane and now around the clubhouse turn and on to the back stretch, there were five furlongs to run and things were pretty much the same, Number Nine by a neck, Marbles Blitz continuing to press, a length and a half back to Deep Atonement, another length back to Holualoa on the skimming the rail, Chances Taken next to that one, another length back to Sweetness, still in the three path, Rules Are Madness on the inside, another length to Tightrope Walker and Too Scared To Party was still in hand at at the rear of the flight.

Down the backside and now into the far turn for the last time, they were nearing the five sixteenths pole and Marbles Blitz moved up to take the lead by three quarters of a length.  Number Nine trying to go on from the rail, a gap of a length and a half to the foursome of Holualoa on the rail, Sweetness four wide, Deep Atonement in the three path and Chances Taken towards her inside.  Too Scared To Party fanned out five wide and was not moving with her signature late move, Rules Are Madness towards her inside and Tightrope Walker was now the back maker.

They made their way around the far turn and into the lane, nearing the furlong marker as Marbles Blitz continued to show the way by a half length, Sweetness up on her outside to apply pressure, Too Scared To Party down the far outside and gaining with every jump, Number Nine along the rail, Holualoa next to that one, Rules Are Madness with a clear run, Chances Taken on her inside, Deep Atonement trying to find a late foot and Tightrope Walker was out of contention.

Inside the final 150-yard and to the finish, Sweetness with a nose in front, Marbles Blitz digging in, Too Scared To Party down the far outside moving quickest of all… and right on by… the black filly was not to be denied and Too Scared To Party went under the wire in front by three quarters of a length to take the win.  Sweetness continued on gamely for the place, while Marble Blitz and Rules Are Madness hit the wire together to dead-heat for the third spot.  Number Nine was fifth, Holualoa sixth, Chances taken seventh, Deep Atonement eighth, and Tightrope Walker closed this one out.
