Top Weights May Have It in Dominguez Memorial Handicap

Dominguez Memorial Handicap
3:00 SUN Race #5 1 1/16m Dirt Stake
Purse $100.000 For Four Year Olds And Upward Foaled In NM.

1  Country Model        Night Rider Stables    Arboleda A      118

Gets in down the bottom of the handicap but with only three pounds between them i doubt that will have much influence. More influence will be the ace draw which he won from on this track last time out. That was over a sprint trip but i think he will see this one out just as well. A win chance if he can find a way through.

2      Inoubliable       T Boy Racing      Chirinos R        119

Won the Mc Donald Handicap last year and gets yet another perfect draw today so must be a hope. He has won five over longer trips despite racing over shorter recently so as long as he doesn’t get too far back he should be good enough to be in at the finish.

3     Dragonheart Hanny      Jive Inc.      Amparan F        118

A consistent sort his works have been pretty sharp so i would expect another good effort from him today. Fourth in the grade two Phoenix last year he will be the fittest horse in the race today off a light weight which may just see him as a good betting proposition.

4    Hachita     Spankys Barn       Carreno J        120

Won three in a row including the Casino Stakes through last year and was then only just beaten in the NM Classic Derby carrying a penalty. Those efforts saw a good price raised at auction and this will be the first run for the new owner. His works have been very solid and the 120Lbs may not be enough to stop him winning.

5   Sport Mad       Night Rider Stables      Fuentes M T Jr    119

A consistent enough five year old who looks well placed in this sort of field. A good effort in the Jamison Handicap last time on this track suggests he is ready for a big run.

6    Raleigh In Doubt         Ekli Stable     Sarmiento R        118

He has won seven races over route trips so comes in here with a decent weight. Good enough to win at his best but this draw will make things awkward for him in an even field.

7     Broomsticks Happy      Woogaloo     Juarez A J Jr      121

A seven year old with just five races under his belt he manages to get both top weight and the car park draw but does get the tracks top jockey so not everything is against him. Ran a super race to be second in the Berkeley Handicap last time and took the NM Classic Gulch Champ before that so is well deserving of the 3Lbs extra he has to carry.

SUMMARY

Broomsticks Happy looks like the best horse in the race but the weight and the draw brings him back to the field. I feel it will be between him and Hachita for the win.
