Tough Field to Do Battle on WO Turf in Canadian Stakes

9/12/2020

   2  WO     Canadian Stakes (GII)

                   $250.000     3yo&Up F&M      1 1/8m Turf          3yo 120lbs   Older 123lbs

Talk about a talented group of ladies…  the field for the Canadian Stakes (GII) is just about as loaded as you could hope for…. and a bit of everything for everyone.  I’m not going to try to reinvent the wheel and have landed on Never Enough as my top choice.  Why go against Mb Stables in  one of these?  His recent numbers sure do stand out, just as does this bay 3yo fillies… a stunning win in the Beverly D on a soft track going longer than this.  She just looks the part right now.  If that win was rain-aided, let’s look at the flip side and put Sweetness in the second spot.  She was in that same race and may have been hindered by the wet going, so this may be a spot for her to flip the script.  I love playing AW’s horses at WO, and Franke could be a big player, and I don’t think you can leave My Girl Makita off of your tickets.  We can’t pick em all, so let’s roll with this and see how we do.

Here’s The Field –

1
Why You Do That    Mb Stables    Zayas E J   120   6/1

Had back to back wins then a third in the Beverly D (GI) which was certainly nothing to be ashamed of considering that was only her sixth lifetime start.  Mb comes for the money and you know she will be primed and ready to run another big one.

2
   Pirate Petranella    Diablo Diablo    Court J K   120   10/1

Hasn’t seen the winner’s circle since her first start of the 2020 season when she won the Herecomesthebride (GIII) at GP in a DH finish.  She has a pair of thirds vs. graded stakes foes but her last pair have been less than desirable.  She will need to wake it up a bit today.

3
Total Eclipse    Aer Stables    Juarez N   120   12/1

Claimed for $28.000 last out when she took down turf fillies at DMR.  Usually I’d just pass over such but this stable in famous for plucking them out of claimers and hitting pay dirt in a big way.  She sure does show a heck of a closing ability… watch her.

4
Better Commodity    Estero Farms    Pimentel J   120   10/1

Another that could have been nabbed from a claimer a couple of starts back.  She ran a solid race on the WO turf when second facing Alw horses.  This is another step up for her, but she seems to be liking this extra distance, so…

5
Never Enough    Mb Stables    Garcia Mar   120   2/1

Big win last out taking the Beverly D (GI) at AP on a soggy course and although that is her only seasonal win, she’s been close in a host of other graded races.  Was that her coming out party or is she a soft track diva?

6
Lewis Bay    Maxmillion Farm    Fuentes Ru   123   8/1

She’s still looking for her first win of the 2020 season but has been close in a couple of stakes races.  She was up-the-track when seventh in the Intercontinental (GIII) over this track in June.  She’s been rested since then and stretches out for the return to the races.

7
Twizt And Shout    Whitewater Stables    Kimura K   120   7/1

Broke maiden three back, was runner-up in the Tepin at CD then closed a bit late to be fifth at WO in the ONT Colleen (GIII) last out.  She’s going to have to improve a bit if she’s going to contest this one, but she should like the added distance.

8
   Sweetness    High Voltage    Prat F   120   4/1

Three stakes win this season, two were of the graded variety so there’s no doubt that she can get the job done when she’s on her game.  She was eighth on the AP turf in the Beverly D (GI) and I’m not sure if we can write that off because she won her other off-track race.  I think she will bounce back.

9
   Anna D    Night Mare Racing    Centeno D E   120   4/1

Only six races under her belt but she shows three wins and a pair of runner-up races.  She’s been second in her last two starts, both at a distance on the sod.  If she can run back to that last pair, she should be right in the thick of this one as well… and she may have decent odds, as well.

10
   Franke    Australia Wide    Ryan S   123   5/1

He may not be as good as he once was, but he’s as good once as he ever was.  AW brings this one in off of a pair of fifth place finishes, but she’s won half of her six starts this season and should be feared today as well.  Can she get back on track in this one?

11
My Girl Makita    Maxmillion Farm    Husbands P   120   4/1

Three consecutive runner-up finishes, the last pair vs. GI foes and she looks pretty sharp right now.  Catches a bad post, but she normally comes from way way back… so the post may mean nothing.  A repeat of that last pair should make her a force to be reckoned with again today.
