Triple Senor Skims Rail To Win Mountain Top Futurity

June 23, 2015

Small but talented, the field for the Mountain Top Futurity on Saturday evening at RUI featured some very sharp juveniles going for a big $175.000 purse but in the end, the breeding program of Drabfantasy was on full display. Triple Senor, bred all the way back through to the early stages of HRP, came through an inside crack to get the job done over stablemate B K D House and earn his first career victory in the process, with a 90-speed rating that will set him up for a solid rematch with these horses a few weeks from now in another lucrative NM-bred event.

A fast track and a small field produced blazing speed at the start of the Mountain Top Futurity and while heavy favourite Th Watcher (*0.30) dropped back, Grey Massine (16.30) was able to sprint out to the early lead and establish the margin by nearly a length heading into the far turn. A blistering opening split of 22.43 left the leader two-wide and rolling but that inside track was all Triple Senor (17.55) needed to engage Grey Massine and he sprinted inside while his stablemate B K D House (2.25) got the worst of it outside. As the early leader backpedaled and the two stablemates took command, Th Watcher got into action wide and looked poised through a half-mile in 45.29 but in the end, the stretch proved too short and Triple Senor was able to hold on at the rail by a head over B K D House. Th Watcher ran out of ground late but did manage to get up for third money ahead of Grey Massine, who tired late behind those wicked early splits.

As a maiden, Triple Senor was supposed to be the longest shot on the board in the Mountain Top Futurity but his experience paid off with a resolute rally that saw him win his first race in style, and over a stablemate who has much more to offer down the line. All of these horses will most likely end up in the Rio Grande Senor Futurity, with another huge purse on the line and the prospect of a small field once again, unless some new shooters ship in and forgo the road to the BC.

Congratulations goes out to owner Drabfantasy and their two-year-old gelding Triple Senor, a rail-skimming winner of the Mountain Top Futurity at RUI!
