I certainly missed handicapping this one, and the public didn’t do much better… it ended in a bang-bang finish of double-digit-odds horses and we had to go to the photograph for a winner.  Threshold’s Tugela Force was making his second start for the barn after a private purchase and he made the most of it, taking the SRP Stakes by a whisker, getting the abbreviated four and a half furlongs in :50.94 the fast track.  Internship, also dismissed at double digit odds, battled the whole way, and was unfortunate to miss the photo, and settled for the place.  What A Laff closed well from the far outside to be a half length back in third, just a nose in front of Crucible in fourth.

Tugela Force is a 5yo gray gelded son of Mission To Tugela – Spanish Cousin, by Clay County Kid, and he was bred in Cal by Allinthegate.  This was his fifth win from fifteen starts, his first win of the ’22 season, and he now has $204.160 in lifetime earnings.  Congrats to the connections!

Tugela Force tracked pace between horses, up to engage leader at the sixteenth, nailed foe on the wire.  Internship forced pace with a wide trip, took over midway far turn, nailed on wire, lost photo.  What A Laff no early interest 3p, fanned for the drive, good late foot while no threat to the top pair.  The Crucible forced the pace 3p, flattened out late.  Never Go Raw midpack throughout.  Wrecking Havoc was never involved.  Take Control was no factor.  Duel Steel sharp break, set the pace to midway on the turn, tired. Tudor King trailed throughout.
