4 SA Las Cienegas Stakes (GIII)
$100.000 4yo&Up F&M 6 1/2f Turf 123lbs
TwinTowersRacing’s Ponzi Scheme racks up another one, as the bay mare holds off the late charge from Sand Authority to take the Las Cienegas Stakes (GIII) by a head, covering the six and a half furlongs in 1:12.36, over the Firm turf, here at SA. Last out, she won the Long Island, going a mile and three-eighths at AQU… today, it’s sprinting on the down-hill course… either way, it’s time for pictures and checks, which is what she loves to do. The runner-up certainly made a race out of it, but it was just not to be on this afternoon. Point Of Honor, forwardly placed throughout, was three-quarters of a length back in third, then another half-length to Always Condottieri taking the minor money. Just five lengths covered the field of seven. The time was a stakes record at the six-and-a-half-furlong distance (the race being contested between 5.5f, 6f and 6.5f).
