Saturday’s 16th edition of the $250.000 11/8 G2 Canadian Stakes has drawn six turf distaffers as they jockey for position on the G1 BC F&M Turf leaderboard and look to add some coveted graded black-type to their catalog pages.  The leading trainers in this event have been Team 7 Illusions (2009, 2019) and Mb Stables (2014, 2018) while R. Bejarano (2010, 2019) is the only jockey to win two renewals.  Here’s the field for the 2021 edition of the $250.000 G2 Canadian Stakes from WO

#1 Maya Caribe (First Street Stable/Mario Gutierrez 123): Rail horse comes here off of her worst performance in a while when she was 7th of 9 and beaten 4-lengths in G2 Glens Falls.  That was only the second time in 15 career starts that she missed the trifecta, so expect better here.  4yo lass should have enough early foot to use this post to her advantage and would be no shock to see her rebound in a major way.

#2 Classic Princess (Maxmillion Farm/D. Davis 123): Currently 23rd on the G1 Filly & Mare Turf leaderboard, this gal needs another big performance to help her move closer to the main body of that field.  Was an absolute steal for the $3.500 claim last April and had been in fine form even before being purchased by this outfit in June.  Probably hoping that the turf stays as firm as possible and should have every chance given her form and this draw.  Definite win contender.

#3 De Nada (TwinTowersRacing/G. Saez 123): Filly enters here off of a career-best effort in aforementioned G2 Glens Falls.  Bad news is that effort was only good enough to get 3rd and she hasn’t visited the winner’s circle since January.  Retains G. Saez and if he gets her started a bit sooner, she can pick up some pieces and believe the turn-back to 9f will suit her; however, will need to keep showing improvement.

#4 Supersede (D J C Racing Stables/S. Ryan 123): 4yo will stretch-out to 9f for the first time, but she shouldn’t be intimidated by graded foes.  Has done some really nice work over varying distances up to a mile so this looks like a good race to get a gauge on how she will handle the extra distance.  Definitely think she adds some pace and a repeat of G1 Just A Game effort makes her a major player as she looks to improve on her 29th place on the G1 BC F&M Turf leaderboard.

#5 Twisted Express (Mb Stables/E. Jaramillo 120): First of two 3yos in the race and both from the same barn.  This filly took the G1 DMR Oaks in her last, currently sits at #21 on the BC points leaderboard, and just keeps getting better and better.  If you’re looking for a negative, she did draw the rail in that last effort, but that may not matter if she is ready to fire again.  She should be able to run wherever Jaramillo decides to go with her after the break and have to think she’s the one to beat.

#6 Pink Satellite (Mb Stables/T. Gaffalione 120): Stablemate to the G1-winner drawn to her immediate inside, this 3yo filly has been feasting on LA-bred competition this summer.  Gets a chance at the big-time here and she looks to have plenty of upside as she will be making only the 5th start of her career.  Has shown plenty of early flash against the state bred company so it will be interesting to see what the tactics are for this assignment.  Fourth straight win is not out of the question.

Final Analysis: 2-7-8 in a highly competitive renewal of the $250.000 G2 Canadian Stakes from WO.  Good luck to all of the participants!
