Twisted Flyer Takes Home Wet King Edward

GII — King Edward BC Stakes

$175.000 Stake at 1 Mile on the Turf for Three Year old Fillies & Mares

The weather played a big roll on Queens Plate weekend at WO. The GII King Edward saw two of the race contenders, Sweep The Ravine and Peace In The City scratch before the race due to the unfavorable conditions. Those scratches left us with a small field of four horses to battle it out for the GII title on the turf.

Everyone broke away from the gate well, a furlong into the race Jazz Lightning took over and was able to clear the horses to his inside and get a perfect rail spot. Seven Years and Inspector Jacques sat just off the pace and Twisted Flyer was at the back of the pack.

As they went around the final turn Jazz Lightning still held the lead with Seven Years a few lengths ahead of the final two. Turning for home the rail opened up as the top two began to tire and that was all Twisted Flyer needed as he was able to skim the rail all the way to the front, nipping Jazz Lightning just before the wire. Jazz Lightning was able hold on for second over flying Inspector Jacques with Seven Years finishing fourth. The whole field was within a length of each other as they came across the line.

Congratulations to the connections of Twisted Flyer on her first graded stake victory in her second try at the King Edward.
