Two-Year-Old Turf Types Go Sprinting in ONT Racing Stakes

  3  WO     ONT Racing Stakes

            $135.000        2yo           5f  Turf        120lbs

It’s Freshman turf day at WO and we look at the boys that will be going five furlongs on the WO turf in the ONT Racing Stakes.  Ten will be headed to the gate as Mb Stables had an early scratch and I took the stable-mate Tyson Fury as the top choice in this one.  He just missed, flying home late in the Tyro at MTH and I think they will try to keep him a bit closer to the action today.  I’ll go to the rail and put Sadam in the second spot.  He looked good in both grass tries so this seems like another good spot for him to show his turf-ability.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Sadam    Night Rider Stables    Wilson E J   120   7/1

Broke maiden last out at ELP taking them wire-to-wire in that one.  Just missed prior to that at DMR and he certainly seems to like the grass.  He’s quick and that will be needed here today.

2
   Code Red Party    Martyparty    Hernandez R M   120   8/1

Got the job done last out at EMD on a muddy track as the 7/2 favorite.  Just missed at GG in his debut at the abbreviated distance so he’s been tough in both starts.  First grass and he looks to be a good one.

3
Hard Pressed    Mb Stables    Tunon M   120   5/1

Took down Cal-bred maidens last out in his first start on the turf.  He was close in both of his previous starts, so no stunner that another Mb Stables horse can run.  Has been working on the sod so they were looking for something like this.

4
   Flexible Pancake    Arindel    Bejarano R   120   7/1

He’s familiar with the starting gate, this being his seventh start.  Has been close most of the time except his lone stakes start.  Just missed on the SAR sod vs Alw horses last out.  Can he build off of that one?

5
   Z Wild One    Arindel    Lopez P   120   5/1

He’s never been worse than second in three starts, breaking maiden at first asking then a pair of runner-up starts after that including last out over this surface.  Could be a good spot for him

6
   Gordon Shumway    High Voltage    Velazquez J R   120   4/1

Back to back wins and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it where both of them were dead-heats.  Broke maiden at GG then against Alw horses at ELP in his first start on the lawn.  He certainly knows how to win.

7
Brian The Bootmaker    First Flight Stable    Husbands P   120   10/1

I don’t like writing races with my horses in them (which usually isn’t a problem since I write stakes races and I’m a horrible trainer with few stakes horses) but this is about as good as I get.  I’d expect to be last.

8
Tyson Fury    Mb Stables    Lezcano J   120   7/2

Came from way back but lost the decision (see what I did there?) when second in the Tyro at MTH last out.  That was his first start on the weeds after an up-the-track voyage vs. stakes company on the main track.  He looks like a weed-eater so give him a serious look.

9
Charleys One Love    Barcelona Farms    Bahen S R   120   8/1

Broke maiden vs. Fla-bred in his most recent and that was over the GP lawn.  He looks to be quick and I may regret not giving him better odds and a bigger chance.  This trainer can get them home so keep an eye on him.

10
Bad Precedent    Mo Mentum Farm    Gutierrez Mario   120   10/1

Broke maiden over the DMR main track two back, but that last out is a big red flag.  First turf try was a disaster as he was last of seven beat thirteen lengths.  Was in the grass, the wet track?  I’m not sure but that was not good.

11
   Point High    Mb Stables       120
