Tyrian Takes Palisades Turf Sprint

1 KEE    Palisades Turf Sprint

     $100.000         3yo         5 1/2f  Turf           120lbs

I’m not sure if it was a bigger shock that I picked Tyrian on top or that he went off at 8/1 odds in Thursday’s Palisades Turf Sprint.  Either way, the grey gelding got the KEE stakes program off to a grand start ash he took over around the furlong marker and went under the wire in front by a half length, getting the five and a half furlongs in a snappy 1:02.52.  Beyond Blue Eyes set the pace only to be caught and had to settle for the place, with a fast closing He Steals Two another neck back in third.

The gate was loaded, the springs were activated, the bell rang, doors opened… it was race time at KEE!  And away in good order with Beyond Blues Eyes on the early gas, Captain Cajones next to him and El Indio Pajoqui from the far outside.  Drop back down to Tyrian Twister Jewels from the rail, Drunk Skunk next to that one, Dawning Diamond in behind that pair and He Steal Two was the early trailer.

Midway on the far turn and past the five sixteenth’s marker, Beyond Blue Eyes continued to show the way by a neck, Captain Cajones on his outside, then drop to the rail where Tyrian was trying to cut the corner in a ground saving trip.  A gap back to Twister Jewels on the rail, El Idio Pajoqui three wide, Drunk Skunk between horses, another length and a half to Dawning Diamond and He Steals Two continued to trail.

Now moving into the lane and inside the furlong pole, Tyrian was up to look Beyond Blue Eyes in the eye as these two had scooted away from the rest.  Twister Jewels from the rail, Captain Cajones still wide, Drunk Skunk between them, Dawning Diamond in behind that trio, El Indio Pajoqui and He Steals Two.

Deep stretch and to the finish, it was a two horse battle but Tyrian was edging clear and went under the wire for the win.  Beyond Blue continued on well to be second as He Steal Two closed from way back to grab the third spot. Drunk Skunk was fourth, Twister Jewels in fifth, Dawning Diamonds just a nose back in sixth, Captain Cajones seventh and El Indio Pajoqui was eighth.

Tyrian is a 3yo grey gelded son of Ruble – Proud Bird, by Proud Chai, and he was bred in Fla by Smokey Stover.  Sold prior to his racing career for $22.000, Mo Mentum Farm has owned him for both victories, coming from his five starts, this being his first stakes score.  He now has earnings of $103.440.

Tyrian  broke well, track the leader to the furlong marker, took over and inched away in final sixteenth.  Beyond Blue Eyes was away well and set the pace to deep stretch, ceded
in a game effort.  He Steals Two  looked hopelessly beaten for four and a half furlongs, closed quickly down the rail, best foot too late. Drunk Skunk rated back from the pace, some late action.  Twister Jewels inside trip, no excuse, tired late.  Dawning Diamond was no factor, outrun.  Captain Cajones  showed early speed, wide trip, tired.  El Indio Jajoqui flashed some early foot, folded.
