Very Deep Field for The Read Stakes

                           The Read Stakes – GII
                       DMR Race 5 1 1/8M – Turf
                                Purse $250.000
                         Three Year Olds and Up

A big field of nine is going to line up on the oceanside oval for the Read Stakes. It’s a very good field that is lining up with a very good horse like Compress coming in to try and win this little dash. Midwestern Slang is the second best horse in the race in my opinion so it’ll be an interesting race.

1. Devil Six (13-5-3-1 $628.290), trained by D J C Racing Stables

Here is the only entry from the D J C Racing Stables barn and he is going to be making his first start for the wizard. He was bought at auction for four hundred and one bucks after his last win at PIM in the Dixie. His best running comes from way back so the pace will need to be hot for him to get there.

2. Lone Shadow (5-2-0-2 $54.640), trained by Blushing Meadows

The young gun in the race this horse is coming off an allowance last start at CD by a length. He has only tried one graded stakes ever in his life this year. He didn’t run too bad that day when he ran fourth but that was against three year olds only and not in a race of this quality. Looks like a tough spot.

3. Maggies Bones (15-5-3-3 $240.090), trained by End Run Farm

Here is another graded stakes winner in the field right here. He won the FG Handicap this winter but hasn’t repeated that performance in his last two starts at all. He is good enough to do some damage in this race when he runs his race but he will need a very quick pace because he likes to close most of the time.

4. Siberian Prince (14-5-0-2 $964.280), trained by Sir Daniel Martin

One again we come across another graded stakes winner in the field. Last out he won the Wise Dan at CD and is last years Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf winner. He is a pretty classy horse and on his best day and definitely has a chance in here. He may not be the best horse in the race to me but he can win for sure.

5. Midwestern Slang (20-5-6-4 $1,850.620), trained by Gdp Inc

Once again another graded stakes winner in the field. He just ran third in the United Nations at MTH against some very good grade one horses. He has made a lot of money in his life and is no slouch and is going to be my second choice in the race. He’s got a very good chance to win this race.

6. Shining Victory (19-4-7-4 $99.900), trained by Sanny Village

Here is a horse who really busted out last start in an allowance at CD where he won by four lengths in that mile and a sixteenth event. If he runs like that he could be tough but he will have to repeat that performance with a little bit of a different class of horses. He may have a dark horse chance.

7. Awesome Indeed (16-4-2-3 $300.080), trained by TwinTowers Racing

This horse has been doing most of his running lately on the dirt in some very tough spots. Last start he finished ninth in the Metropolitan Handicap against some of the best horses in the game. I think the switch back to turf will really help him as three of his four wins have been on the turf.

8. The Laffin Sniper (17-5-6-2 $381.680), trained by Diablo Diablo

Last years grade one Hollywood Derby winner finally got back to the winners circle in his last race in an allowance at CD where he won by two lengths pretty easily. He is a pretty good horse on his best day but I don’t know if his best will be good enough to win it. Maybe he will prove me wrong.

9. Compress (30-9-4-5 $3,252.510), trained by Cherrytree Hill Farm

The class horse of the entire field right here he has been a machine for Cherrytree Hill Farm over the years making over thirty two hundred bucks for him. I like the cut back in distance for him and I think he is sitting on a win now. He is going to be my top pick in here and he looks very tough.

Summary

Well obviously the race runs through the outside horse Compress as he is the best in the field for sure. Midwestern Slang is the closest horse in the field too him and the best shot to beat him for sure. But Compress is my top pick and the horse to beat. Good luck to everyone in the race.
