Wasted Away Shows Heart in Stretch to Win Any Limit

Any Limit ($100.000 Purse)
GP- For Fillies Three Years Old
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
March 17, 2024

Sunday saw the running of the Any Limit at GP, which runs for a $100.000 purse. That won’t make it one of the highlights of the meet, but it was still a chance for one of these fillies to win a nice race and potentially move into bigger things. The winner of the race would be one that has already been in “bigger”, as Wasted Away ran in the Forward Gal last month and finished in the middle of the field. Against lesser competition, Wasted Away took care of business here, winning by a length, and showing that we made the right call in picking her to win. She is trained by Luz International and was ridden by T Gaffalione. For each, it is their first win in the race. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:09.50, the second quickest in the history of the race. Let’s take a look at it:

(1/4 Mile- :22.55)- It looked like Bears Stable owned Looks Pink To Me was going to be the early leader of the race, but to her outside Hawaiian Blaze, trained by Fractious, moved forward just enough to get credit for the top spot by a head. Two horses would only be a length back, with El Gran Fighter positioned between the top two for First Flight Stable, and Complicated Crazy running four wide for Fractious. Wasted Away, our eventual winner from Luz International was fifth here, but still only two lengths back so very much still near the front. At the back, the Riggins Racing filly, Beta Centauri, could see them all in front of her.

(½ Mile- :45.64)- At the top of the turn, Hawaiian Blaze pushes forward a little more, and will now lead by a length. She holds this throughout the turn and looks to be in a spot for the stretch. However, she has four of her rivals all side by side right behind her, with Complicated Crazy in the second spot for now. Looks Pink To Me was beginning to drop back and would be caught by El Gran Fighter. Meanwhile, Wasted Away smoothly moved to the outside and was in the four wide position with plenty of run left in the tank. Beta Centauri was still two lengths back.

(Finish- 1:09.50)- Once she caught the other stalkers, you knew that Wasted Away was going to be at least second without any issue, but could she catch Hawaiian Blaze? It still looked like are early leader was running well, so Wasted Away was going to have to show a lot of heart in the stretch to get her. And she would do exactly that. With T Gaffalione strongly urging her on, Wasted Away showed plenty of desire to push ahead and go on to win this race by a length. Hawaiian Blaze was a game second, a length ahead of a third-place dead heat between El Gran Fighter and Complicated Crazy. Beta Centauri and Looks Pink To Me round it out.

About The Winner- Wasted Away, trained by Luz International and ridden to victory by T Gaffalione, is a three-year-old filly by Fire N Fury and is out of Calescent. She was bred in Florida as a third quarter two-year-old by Luz International, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her second in four starts and first stake win. Her career earnings are now $89.000.
