Wbf No Regrets Passes Last Lady Late to Win Spinster

Spinster (Grade 1) (BC)- $500.000 Purse
KEE- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Eighth on the Dirt
October 10, 2021

When Wbf No Regrets is on, she can be as good as anyone in this division. The problem is, she just does not show that enough. She won the Apple Blossom and was good in the Phipps, but her next two starts saw her be a non-factor. That history made her one that you could not ignore here in the Spinster, and she would be made one of our picks, hoping that she would step up and run one of her better races. After nine furlongs in this Grade 1, she would do exactly that and now, she will be heading to the BC Distaff for trainer TwinTowersRacing. It also gave him his first win in the Spinster, something that is also true for jockey J Lezcano. Congratulations to them! The race was run in a time of 1:47.80, the third fastest winning time in the race’s history. Let’s take a look!

(½ Mile- :47.50)- Last Lady would be the quickest out of the gate, doing so from the outside post for Lindeman Prairie. We mentioned that the race would be very important for her, so this was a welcomed sight for the trainer, surely. Behind her, they are pretty evenly aligned into two groups of four, like we typically see. Our eventual winner, Wbf No Regrets, from TwinTowersRacing, is part of the stalking group, and runs in the second lane. Drink Me Pretty is to her inside for Mb Stables, and on the outside we have Broken Spoke Stables’ Bay Of Indy and Laffy Crack, trained by Night Rider Stables. The next group sees Smokey Stover’s Brooklyn Bride between the two Fractious runners, E Road and Dream Woman. Trailing are Out Of The Park (TwinTowersRacing), Shining Moments (RNP Stables), and Aligned (Smokey Stover).

(¾ Mile- 1:11.06)- This race would not win any awards for excitement over the first six furlongs as Last Lady continues to run at the front with an uncontested lead. All of the stalkers are just content to keep on doing their thing down the backstretch, and this includes Wbf No Regrets who at least going into the turn was looking like she would do something. Drink Me Pretty continued to ride along, as did Bay Of Indy, and neither began to push forward when Wbf No Regrets began to do so. Further back, not much to talk about, either. Laffy Crack was starting to bow out of it, and no one new was making a closing bid.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Has Last Lady put this field to sleep about ready to cruise to a victory? She continues to show the way and still holds a length advantage over Wbf No Regrets. As of now, we have only seen Wbf No Regrets cut slightly into the lead, and if you were waiting for any other moves from this field, they still were not coming. Yes, this race was truly shaping up as the polar opposite from last night’s thriller in the Hirsch Turf Classic. Hopefully the excitement could pick up in the stretch, although Lindeman Prairie was certainly content with things just as they were up to now.

(Finish- 1:47.80)- Early in the stretch, Last Lady was looking fine, but with about a furlong to go, she started to show some signs of tiring and when that happened Wbf No Regrets was able to pull alongside her pretty quickly. Once there, and with no else coming from behind, Wbf No Regrets would pull away and not be challenged as she scores the victory. Last Lady was leg weary to the wire but held off Bay Of Indy. In many ways this was a two horse race in an eleven horse field. The only horse further back that gave us excitement in the stretch was the winner’s stablemate, who’s move gave TwinTowersRacing a little more of the purse as Out Of The Park is fourth, over Drink Me Pretty. Rounding it out, it’s Brooklyn Bride, Shining Moments, Laffy Crack, Aligned, E Road, and Dream Woman.

About The Winner- Wbf No Regrets, trained by TwinTowersRacing and ridden to victory by J Lezcano, is a six year old mare by Didgeridoo, and is out of the late Square Root Beaut. She was bred as a first quarter two year old by Wagon Box Farm in the state of Oregon, arguably making her Oregon’s finest. She was acquired by TwinTowersRacing, via Golden Stables, in private sales for just $10.000 in September 2017. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her twelfth in 36 starts, and her fifth stake win, all of which are graded. Her career earnings improve to $1,735.260.
