Well this all went according to plan in the end as a solid pace was set up front and this filly avoided being boxed in by holding the rail with a nice gap between her and the leading group. When the time came for the leaders to weaken so a yawning gap opened up one off the rail and this progressive filly strode through like it was all meant to be.    

I feel this may be the first step to bigger success over the longer trips and I would expect to see this daughter of Tactical in some big races in the near future.

2nd       Miss Wicked   TwinTowersRacing      Gaffalione T                   1:09.83

Looked to be ready to challenge the winner as they made ground together as the speed collapsed. Whilst the gap was big enough to drive a bus through it wasn’t wide enough for Miss Wicked who had to change direction at a vital time and she never made up the ground she lost. This was another good effort but this running style she has will cause her problems going forward.        

3rd        Taurasi               D J C Racing Stables Lezcano J                        1:09.90

This was a good effort by the filly who was the last girl standing as the speed collapsed. This was an improved effort and I expect her to be a factor in these state bred stakes races going forward.        

4th        Hanalei Pier    Our Athletes                  Velazquez J R                1:09.99

Up on the speed but gradually weakened off it to finish fourth. This wasn’t a bad effort but she fell away pretty tamely in the end and I wonder whether she is a bit too one paced at this level in sprints. It will be interesting to see whether she goes longer of shorter in the future.
