There’s a ton of back-class in the field for Sunday’s Bayakoa Hcp (GIII) her at LA, but the key word in this one could be “back” as the entire field has been struggling of late.  I’m giving Viral Breakdown the slightest edge… she’s a horse that I’ve always liked and she’s run tough against the boys on the TC Trail.  The question may be, how much did that take out of her?  It’s a common thread throughout this field, horses that have won big races and been tough, but there recent form is questionable.  I guess we see how it goes and I say proceed at your own risk.

Here’s The Field –

1
Viral Breakdown    Aer Stables    Cedillo A   119   7/2

She’s been one of my favorites for quite some time but it’s been tough sledding of late.  She was third in the Dandy (GII) vs. the boys and goodness knows she’s run with the toughest of the lot.  But, her back to back eighth place finishes vs the girls, and in spots I would have expected her to excel, let’s say I’m a bit concerned.  Can she turn it around today?

2
Speedy Ginger    The Sidley Stud    Van Dyke D   118   7/2

Her lone ’21 win came at the Alw level but she has been competitive in a number of graded races.  She was third in the Shuvee (GII) at SAR back in July, but last of six vs. NY-bred stakes horses in her most recent.  That was on a muddy track, but she had two wins and a second on off-tracks prior.  Her best would put her in the middle of things, but she has to improve.

3
Forever Phooey Party    Night Rider Stables    Hernandez J J   121   7/2

She looked good winning the Fleur De Lis Hcp (GII) at CD back in June, but has been last in her two most recent starts, the Rodeo Drive (GI) at SA and the BC Distaff (GI) at DMR.  Obviously, that was top-notch company, but there’s a bunch of good ones here today as well.

4
Mag Ol    Greyfriars Stable    Espinoza V   121   7/2

She hasn’t won since changing barns back in April, but won the FG Oaks (GII) for the prior connections.  She was second in both the Mother Goose (GI) and the Alabama (GI) before a ninth in the JC Gold Cup (GI) facing the boys, and twelfth in the BC Distaff (GI) in her most recent.
