9 MTH The Matchmaker
$150.000 3yo&Up F&M 1 1/8m Turf 3yo 119 Older 124 +penalties
The Matchmaker may have been a story of weight… or instruction… or both. Why You Do That, the only 3yo in the field, busted out on top and held clear late to earn her first graded win and deliver Mb Stables another afternoon of counting money. Credit The Cat, the post time favorite, tracked the winner all the way around, but just couldn’t get by her late and took the place, with La Marine Ancienne closing late for third. The final running time was 1:46.10 for the mile and an eighth on the firm MTH turf course.
Six went to the gate with the scratches of Coastal Flower and Charity Jane, and away in good order from the front chute with Why You Do That going straight to the lead, Credit The Cat giving chase from her inside, Truth In Fact and Folsom Tradition just in behind that pair, then Built For Speed and La Marine Ancienne the early trailing pair.
Around the clubhouse turn and just about to hit the backside with five and a half furlongs to run and Why You Do that led by almost two lengths. Credit The Cat not letting her get away and stalking the leader, then a long gap back to Folsom Tradition on the outside of Truth In Fact, another length and a half to La Marine Ancienne and Built For Speed was anything but, trailing the leader by seven lengths.
They made their way down the backside, nearing the far turn with three furlongs to run and Why You Do That had skipped away to lead by more than two lengths. Credit The Cat still tracking the leader, the another four lengths back to Folsom Tradition on the outside of Truth In Fact, La Marine Ancienne moving up three side to join that pair and Built For Speed could see them all.
Moving around the far turn and past the furlong marker, Why You Do That continued to show the way by two, Credit The Car a clear second, La Marine Ancienne moving up four wide, Folsom Tradition inside of that one, Truth In Fact On The Rail and Built For Speed now showing some interest.
Deep stretch and to the finish, this was all about Why You Do That and her display of speed as she went under the wire by what was listed as a length but looked to be more than that to me. Credit The Cat was second, La Marine Ancienne holding off the late closing Built For Speed for third, Folsom Tradition was fifth ad Truth In Fact closed this one out.
Why You Do That is a 3yo bay filly by Marketable – You Can Do It, by Wunununu, and she was bred in FLA by her owner, Mb Stables. This was her third win from five starts, as stated it was her fist stakes, and she now shows earnings of $150.820.

Why You Do That broke alertly, led throughout, comfortable win. Credit The Cat broke well and tracked the winner while no threat. La Marine Ancienne rated back after the start, began to move forward into the far turn, held sway for third. Built For Speed lacked any early interest, between horses into the lane, best foot too late. Folsom Tradition up close early, raced mid-pack to the top of the lane, tired. Truth In Fact evenly, tired.
