Wide Gate Will Play a Part in DMR Debutante

08/31 DMR Debutante – Grade I
DMR Race #7 7f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $300.000 For Fillies Two Years Old.

1 Always Alicia Joshua Stables Bridgmohan S X

This race will provide a buy in to the BC and first on the list is this rather nice sort by Always Dreaming. An easy debut winner of a little statebred race she has since thrown some encouraging works culminating in a 1.11 flat work a few days ago something which is not uncommon among the older generation stakes races. She should get every yard of the trip and as long as she doesnt get buried from this gate she should run very well for the trainer.

2 Chili Star Chili King Stables Arroyo N Jr

A fifteen length winner of her debut race at the free track she gets a shot from the coveted number two box and whilst she doesnt look quite as forward as some of these she deserves her shot. The trip will certainly hold no fears for her.

3 Premium Chai Mb Stables Alvarado J

A daughter of the great Clockwork Chai she comes here off a modest debut effort but has been working nicely since and is no throw away entry. Its pretty hard to weigh up what she has done so far but with a great draw and Mb Stables behind her she could be the dark horse in the race.

4 Real Nice Allinthegate Ortiz I Jr

The name says it all but she has so far done more in the sales ring than she has on the racecourse. A good debut winner at SA she tried the CTBA Stakes in her only other start but found a wide draw and the wide gate speed push too much to conquer and ended up fourth. She was coming off a long break into that race so she may be due some improvement but she will be hard pushed to do better in this race.

5 Audrey Hepburn Waldo Espinoza V

Took a couple of go’s to break her maiden but then ran well when storming home in the La Senorita Stakes on the turf last time. After those races on turf her trainer put her back to the dirt where she clocked a 1.37 and 4 work for the mile and so he comes back to the dirt today to try and get some of this action. Tough to pick on her exposed form but that work is on the record.

6 Cryin Out Rampage Stable Rosario J

Took her second start at MTH coming home just under a length clear ina decent maiden. She has since been working very strongly over five furlongs although her mile work wasnt as good that can often happen ina first work after a run. Another with a chance in a race full of chances.

7 Relax Mb Stables Talamo J

The three most accomplished and probably best fillies for this race and drawn widest and this unbeaten filly gets the best of the in gate seven. The winner of three she has never won by more than a quarter length, no altogether surprising at HRP but does show she has the heart of a winner. Her win as favorite in the Sorrento Stakes was typically game and she won the Debutante at CD before that from a wide draw so she looks to have plenty of aces up her sleeve. Her 1.37 flat mile work is close on a second quicker than anything else so on those facts alone you have to put her in as the winner.

8 Untouched Talent Fractious Van Dyke D

A very good maiden winner she ran from gate 12 and on the pace in the Adirondack but still had enough to battle on for second. That form is very good but she once again gets a horrible draw to work with and will once again be burning energy early on. A nice enough worker she may be a good bet for the trifecta’s and exacta’s.

9 Dublin Style D J C Racing Stables Centeno D E

Like Untouched Talent she seems to have the draw bias that doesnt exists and gets another poor draw. She flew from the back to take second in the Schuylerville last time and i can see a repeat happening here where she may be too late to catch Relax.

SUMMARY

Relax looks an odds on pick for the win with Untouched Talent and Dublin Style filling the places but with the three best horses drawn wide this race sets up for a shock win if things dont work out for the wide ones today. If there is a shock it may be Audrey Hepburn that provides it.
