Wide Open Field in Regret at CD

Fillies will be headed to the turf course at The Twin Spires and we look at the field for the 2020 Regret (GIII), going a mile and an eighth on the CD sod.  I think Chances Taken will be the one to beat here today, coming off of that narrow miss at AQU vs. stakes company in her most recent.  She looks ready to go the added distance and should be the favorite in this one.  I could go any number of ways for the second choice but will land on Shake The Stick in this one.  She closed well to win last out and that was a wet track, so the distance should fit her as well, plus she certainly knows how to win.

Here’s The Field –

Joan Of Arc    Calia Stable    Gaffalione T   122   5/1

Got the job done last out breaking maiden at PRX in a 5f sprint, which has been the bulk of her starts.  Going from 5f to a mile and a eighth is a huge change… and her mom was more of a sprinter while her dad is the great Commanding.  She’s been working at a distance, so this was obviously in the plans.  Something tells me that she could take to the added distance and may be tough.

2
Dawning Dreadnought    Patterson Stables    Hernandez B J Jr   122   7/1

Broke maiden by five lengths two back on a soft turf course and was third in a tag race last out.  She looks like a nice horse and I’m kind of surprised someone didn’t drop the claim slip on her in that SA race.  Sunny skies are in the forecast so her soggy abilities will probably not be able to be used.  I think they would be happy with a minor share.

3
   Steinbrenner    Aer Stables    Court J K   122   4/1

Had the lead in that AQU stakes race only to get a bit weary in the late stages and settled for third.  That was an improvement off of the prior race while facing graded foes and she folded up late in that one.  The try to get her to go another sixteenth of a mile in this one, so her ability to save something for the late states will be define her finish.

4
Chances Taken    Mb Stables    Garcia Mar   122   5/2

Closed well to be the runner up in that stakes at AQU last out, and that was her first race on the green stuff, which she seemed to like quite a bit.  That was a nice bounce-back after the fifth place finish on a wet track, and I think a dry surface here could spell victory.

5
   Naughtygirlsneedlove    Big Jd Racing    Lanerie C J   122   7/2

Nice maiden win over this surface and at today’s distance, so the home cooking could be just what this one needs.  Was up the tack at KEE vs. stakes company but I can overlook that race as it was on the dirt, facing a tough group, etc.  I would give her a big chance to get the job done here today.

6
Shake The Stick    Nakamura Stables    Baze T C   122   4/1

Got her fourth win from eight starts last out taking OptAlw types at PIM and closed well to get the job done in that one.  She looks like today’s distance will be exactly what she wants and she certainly knows how to get her picture taken.  This is a step up, but she may be ready to do just that.
