BC Juvenile Fillies Turf – Grade I
1 mile Turf Graded Stake Purse $1,000.000 Two-Year-Old Fillies At DMR
1st Wild Water Wagon La Canada Racehorses 9.05-1 (HRP) 8-1 (SRF)
As I mentioned in my preview, Wild Water Wagon could be a lot of trouble at the wire. Well, she was: such trouble that she won the race. I worried about her being able to time her finish at this shorter distance, but she, or rather her jockey and/or instructions didn’t let her get too far back, so she is only seventh four lengths back on the backstretch, and it’s easy to time your closing from there, exactly the same as in the Miss Grillo. Wild Water Wagon has now won three of four starts, and with a running style like this, she should keep winning for the rest of her life.
2nd State Title Team 7 Illusions 13.25-1 (HRP) 6-1 (SRF)
Yep, her second turf start, and State Title registers her second second place finish in a $1,000.000 race. I don’t think we are going to see her messing about on dirt much any longer since she’s made it clear where she likes to perform. Wild Water Wagon was her shadow into the stretch until that one moved along side to challenge and proved to be a half-length the better at the wire.
3rd Rowena Williams9 7.35-1 (HRP) 9-2 (SRF)
In her usual fashion, Rowena forced the pace throughout, tried to get the lead coming home only to have State Title take over coming into the stretch and although she continued on with courage, she also was passed by Wild Water Wagon in the final strides. A valiant try to lose by only a length.
4th Patronize D J C Racing Stables 5.90-1 (HRP) 4-1 {SRF}
Patronize, a deep closer, got too deep and had the daunting task of closing from twelfth place at the far turn, still tenth coming home, really poured on the coal down the lane but still fell a couple of lengths short at the finish.
