The PIM Special – Grade III
PIM Race 13 1 3/16M – Dirt
Purse $300.000
Three Year Olds and Up
The second biggest race on tap this weekend is on Friday and for three years and up and will most likely be run over a racetrack that will not be fast looking at forecast. The only horse that has won on an off track is the number four Not Til Monday so he may have an advantage over a couple of the others.
1. Dr Carson (22-3-2-4 $557.400), trained by TwinTowers Racing, ridden by I Ortiz Jr 124lbs
Winner of the OP Handicap last out he is in good form and will probably be a favorite for the race. The only problem is he has never hit the board on an off track so if there track isn’t fast he will be very suspicious. If it’s a fast track he’s one of the top picks but if it rains I will count him out as a legit chance.
2. Tragic (13-6-3-1 $448.590), trained by Canadian Racing, ridden by R Chirinos 124lbs
This is the win machine of the field as he has almost won half of career starts. He was a runaway winner last out in the SUN Handicap by an impressive two lengths. He has never been on a wet racing surface before so he will be a big question mark if the sky falls out on race day and it’s an off track.
3. What Have You Done (9-2-3-0 $333.600), trained by Mb Stables, ridden by J R Velasquez 119lbs
Once a big player on the triple crown trail those hopes were dashed away after a bad performance in the BG Stakes. That race was run on the mud and talking with Mb Stables he will be a dry only scratch if the track is muddy on race day. With a fast track he will have a chance but with an off track he will never run.
4. Not Til Monday (7-3-3-0 $228.900), trained by Mb Stables, ridden by F Pennington 119lbs
The only horse with success on an off track and with the way the weather is looking he will have to be my top pick for obvious reasons. He also gets a weight break for being a three year old which will play in his favor. He won the Spiral on an off track and I think that off track performance can put him on top.
5. Corum Jhaelen Irsei (8-3-1-1 $98.020), trained by Boomtown, ridden by J S Rocco Jr 119lbs
Not sure what the name means but what I do know is this horse won the Wando Stakes at WO in his last start by a length at fifty one to one. A big shocker in that race and if he wins here he will probably shock the rest of them again. He’s got no off track experience so that will be a big question mark.
6. Que Cosa (18-2-5-2 $480.970), trained by D J C Racing Stables, ridden by R Bejarano 124lbs
The only entry from the wizard D J C Racing Stables is the New York bred son of Condottieri. Third last out in the Excelsior at AQU. Only one off track race under his belt it was an out of the money finish so not sure how he will run if it’s an off track like it’s looking like what it will happen. Never count a horse from this stable out.
7. Charleys Agent (10-2-4-0 $207.700), trained by Mb Stables, ridden by R J Albarado 119lbs
The third and final entry from champion trainer Mb Stables is the Coolmore Lexington winner. He is taking the same route as last years winner Danzig Of The Rocks from the same stable. If he can take to the off track surface if the rain comes I wouldn’t completely count him out on a win picture.
Summary
The main thing is if the rain shows up like the forecast is saying that it will. If it comes Not Til Monday looks very tough since he is the only horse to have won on an off surface. If not the race looks pretty tough and I think Dr Carson and What Have You Done will be very tough to beat also.
