The Lang Stakes – Grade III
3:00 PIM Race #12 6f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $200.000 For Three Year Olds.
1 Dash Cam Mb Stables Bridgmohan S X
Bought from Aml Stables for $102.50 he has won both of his starts since, a maiden and an optional allowance. His works are strong and he gets the ace draw so he will be a winning chance if his inexperience at this level doesn’t get in his way.
2 Handsome Devil Rock Creek Ruiz Jo
A similar record to Dash Cam with two wins from three and as yet no black type appearances he is working very similar times too so it will be interesting to see which one comes out on top. His two wins have come in a maiden and an allowance but they were at lower grade tracks. It is hard to separate these two we will only know which has the class gene after the race.
3 Creep Away Arindel Jaramillo E
Coming back to the trip which saw him win The Hutcheson Stakes he had a go at route trips in an effort to get into the TC since that win and actually ran very well. Beaten just a half length in the Wood Memorial meant that he missed the KYD by not very much and whilst he tried again in the Day Mile he did look a little race weary when finishing only ninth. We know he can sprint and his trainer is having a fantastic year so if he hasn’t gone over the top he must be a winning chance.
4 Nark D J C Racing Stables Velazquez J R
A consistent sort he took the AZ Breeders Derby last time over a longer trip but i don’t think he needs a test of stamina. Before that he sprinted well in allowance company and has his first go at the higher grade today, sure to be thereabouts and trying to the line but he has something to prove at this grade.
5 Creepy Oly John Henry Cedillo A
His work times are better than his form which may suggest he lacks the class gene required for this level. Having said that he ran in a stakes race and an allowance before winning his maiden so it is clear he is showing plenty at home. A bit of a dark horse here and if he runs to his works he may be a good bet.
6 Settle The Score Vr Estero Farms Davis D
Another one that sprinted well before going the TC route, he too ran very well and wasn’t far off qualifying for the KYD. Beaten just a length in the Holy Bull i think the trip was beyond him in the FL Derby where he disappointed in running eighth. His work times are good enough and he clearly has something about him so if he can cope with the wide draw he must be considered a winning chance.
SUMMARY
Well some stakes form here and some up and comers too and it is hard to split any of them to be honest. Such is racing at HRP but i am going for the safe bet here and one that has already proved he has the class gene in Creep Away. I worry this race may be too close to his failure in the Day Mile and if it is then Creepy Oly may just decide that today is the day to run to his works.
