Will the Mystery Continue in The Funny Cide?

All ready a back to back winner and the $100.000 Violette title holder, Allinthegate’s recent purchase Mystery may be solving what it takes to win three in a row.

  • The Funny Cide – Purse $200.000
  • Saratoga Race Course – For Two year olds Foaled in NY.
  • Six and one half Furlongs
  • August 23, 2019

Looking over this sprint event here in the eighth race on a card that is just full of non graded and some major graded company races, these nine juveniles are hoping to earning more, and placing higher for this years BC Juvenile. I am going to break this down into three groups and see who the standouts are for this season.

As mentioned in the opening comments, Allinthegate’s Mystery will probably get top billing by his backers at the mutual windows. His past victories really highlight his talent, and the addition of Bute since coming to this barn has not hurt him, but has helped him. His 1:09 and one final time in that event was quite impressive, and the added sixteenth of a mile should be no problem. He does get strapped with an extra two pounds with that victory, but it will be minor for him. Three others have made recent changes heading into their past events, and walking away with victories. Mb Stables Hanging Around switched from Lasix to Bute and blinkers, and the bay colt responded nicely winning a MdSpWt65 affair up at WO. Coming off that surface general works well here. Inside post position is definitely a blessing as well.

Two others with recent changes are D J C Racing Stables Lake Success who went with the full gambit (LBbs ) for his most recent MdSpWt75 event in a restricted affair over this oval. The return back should be much to his liking and he has knocked a full second off his past two works at a mile, so he is definitely getting stronger. The other one who made a switch and won was trainer Fractious and Shake It Up. This will be just his second try with the addition of the Shadow roll, and it helped him bring home a one length victory here at SAR in a MD40 race. Has four starts this season and has been post time favorite in all four of them. Does the public know something that we don’t know?

Others racing here on Friday have talents as well and can’t be dismissed. Runner-up in the Violette to Mystery was La Canada Racehorses Personal Beliefs. He closed to within one length in that event, and the extra sixteenth will have him even a little bit closer, if not on top. The lone Graded company competitor will be the three horse, Aer Stables Mimi Me who challenged himself to a shot at the Gr. III Sanford event, and he would place eighth, three lengths back at the finish. Dropping in here should make it a little more comfortable for him to make his presence felt late.

The final three runners are in my opinion still building their focus. Feral Storm ( Smokey Stover ) has two show finishes to his credit. Concern is that he has been absent since early May when after the race, he went under the knife and works are all we can focus on. He may need one back first. Out of the five hole will be Night Rider Stables Big Belly Jockey. Is the only one in this group who has tested the mile, and at one point actual had the lead in that race, only to finish second a quarter of a length shy. Cut back in distance should be a benefit and be to his liking. The finally runner is that of Mb Stables American Jammer. Will have to break from the outside nine post and this will be third time Lasix. Has cash a check in all three of his career starts and he may just have to be a bit up against this field. All depends on placement at the turn for home.
