Wilshire Stakes Turns into a Love Fest

Wilshire Stakes – Grade III
1 Mile Turf Graded Stake Purse $100.000 Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward. At SA

1st      Love                       Mo Mentum Farm                *3-1 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)

Well, the part I got really right is a mile is a nice distance for Love. This was one of the nicest looking races she has run in her life, laying back in sixth for half the race and starting her run at the far turn that saw her arrive at the finish line pulling away to a length victory. Love is a bay filly by GSW Cheveley Park-GSW Baptisted By Fire with stakes winners on all lines and an interesting series of inbreeding starting about the third parent line with Commanding, Chai Latte and Charley Farley; and base stallions Rhythm and Black Moon.

2nd      Miss Hijinks           Maxmillion Farm           7-2 (HRP) 10-1 (SRF)

Looks like Miss Hijinks did reach back to that SA race and gave this one a strong run. I don’t know how HRP knew. She laid just behind the winner to the far turn but started her run later and had a bit of ground left to make up at the end.

3rd      Voltaire                              Threshold              5-1 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)

Looks like Voltaire has shaken off almost all the rust off and is ready to return to the battlefield. She forced the pace from the get-go, took the lead when she was ready and simply got caught by the closers at the wire. I doubt there was much weakness there. She may not have even seen them coming.

4th      Baby Katherine               Santan Stables             28-1 (HRP) 10-1 (SRF)

Ex-claimer Baby Katherine continues her development bringing home a check in every Graded race she runs in. This time she settled down in eighth from the start until the stretch where she made a run up to fourth.
