This Sunday at AQU, Inevitability picked up his third win in five starts, as he wins the Thunder Rumble, part of the NY Stallion Series. His success, though, was not inevitable, and the trainer, Mb Stables, has been very patient with him. After a maiden win at GG in February, in what was just his second start, Mb Stables put him on the shelf for six months. I wonder how many other trainers out there would have done that, because I know certainly wouldn’t have. The trainer saw something, and saw reason to hold out his horse, even though he ran a good race in that win. When he returned to the track in August, it was at SAR and ran well in an allowance before being beaten in the final strides. After that allowance, came an optional claiming win, and then this race. It seemed to be a tough task, and a couple others got more attention at the betting window. However, Inevitability would not be denied as he picks up the win. Aboard the winner was I Ortiz Jr, who wins the race for the second time, and it is the first win in the stake for Mb Stables. Congratulations to them! The time of the victory was 1:21.70, making it the third quickest in the stake’s history. Let’s take a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :22.93)- Bursting out of the gate would be Canadian Racing’s Long River from the outermost post position. He uses this emphatic start to quickly clear the field and is able to move to the rail without much difficulty. His lead would be a length on a pair who started well in their own right, both Sweetly Driven, from D J C Racing Stables, and the eventual winner, Inevitability, from Mb Stables. Whatever Man, from John Henry ran fourth, just off the lead by about two and a half with the long shot and maiden Sinister Raceport, from Chili King Stables, beside him on the rail. Trailling would be the post time favorite from Sccj Stables, Sorry Sister, as well as Nakamura Stables’ Idol Knowledge, but even they were within five lengths.

(½ Mile- :45.98)- The pace remains consistent during the second quarter of the race, and with one exception, there is not much movement in the order. The main mover here was Sweetly Driven, but not for the right reason as he goes from stalking the leader, Long River, to now dropping over four lengths off the pace. Long River still leads, but Inevitability begins to pull up along his outside as they began to move around the turn. A gap of almost three lengths was present to the third place Whatever Man, who seemed to be striking distance, but needed to get moving now. Sinister Raceport was still on the rail but not showing much and Sorry Sister and Idol Knowledge remained at the back. Sorry Sister began to prepare for a wide move though, into the turn.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.5 To Go)- Inevitability takes over the lead in the turn, passing Long River to the outside. At the top of the stretch, he is nearly a full length ahead of him. Making up some ground in the turn, and looking particularly good here was our pre-race pick and surprising 10/1 shot, Whatever Man. It would still take a strong effort for him to catch Inevitability, but he was positioned well to do so. Sorry Sister had moved into fourth with his wide move around the long AQU turn, but still had quite a bit of ground to make up. Idol Knowledge and Sweetly Driven were not showing much, and Sinister Raceport was looking like a maiden at this point.

(Finish- 1:21.70)- In the stretch, it looks pretty easy for Inevitability, as he gracefully runs to the wire in smooth form to pick up the win! Whatever Man never could get a run going on him, and only made very slight progress. The big mover in the stretch was Idol Knowledge, who suddenly turned it on in the stretch, and nearly got up to take second away from Whatever Man. Next time, Idol Knowledge will just have to make that closing bid a little earlier. Sorry Sister caught the fading pacesetter Long River for the fourth place check, and they were followed by Sweetly Driven. Oh, and then eventually Sinister Raceport.

About The Winner: Inevitability, trained by Mb Stables, and ridden by I Ortiz Jr, is a three year old gelding by Bad Dancer (by Commanding), and out of Lotta That. He was bred in New York by Mb Stables as a third quarter two year old, the only trainer for which he has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in five career stakes, and its his first stake win. His career earnings are now $112.400.
