14/1 Outsider Techfluence Takes AP-Wash Futurity

RACE 4 AP 8/22/2015  Post Time 3:15PM
    AP-Washington Futurity (GIII)
$100.000   2yo      7f     Dirt
When it comes to picking these baby races, I’m horrible – when it comes to winning them, Techfluence has it down pat.  Sent off at 14/1 odds, the bay colt, trained by The Sidley Stud, tracked the early pace, responded when asked and went on to win the AP-Wash Futurity (GIII) by a neck in a final time of 1:22.68 for the seven panels.  That’s back to back wins for The Sidley Stud in this race (2014 by Sexy Laugh).  Babolat was second, a neck better than post-time favorite Carneyman in third.

The field of eleven got away in good order with Carneyman showing good speed from the outside, Full Mast going early with that one Babolat, Lucky Folk Art just to the inside of the leader, Techfluence from the inside, and Christmas Brit.  A length behind that line was Cafe Nativo from the inside, Omega Glory back towards the outside, Von Kloof on the rail Nevski, and No Tears For A Clown was the early trailer.

Down the backside and now nearing the far turn, four furlongs to run and Full Mast had cleared the field, made his way to the rail and had a two length advantage.  Carneyman still giving chase with Babolat to his inside.  A gap of two back to Techfluence on the rail, Lucky Folk Art three wide and Christmas Brit between that pair.  Two length back to Von Kloof still saving ground Cafe Nativo next to that one, two more back to Nevski Omega Glory saving ground and No Tears For A Clown still at the back, eleven lengths covering the field.

Swing around the turn to the top of the lane, then went past the three-sixteenths pole and Full Mast still lead by a length.  Babolat edging out a bit to make a run at the leader, Carneyman on his flank and set down for the drive, Techfluence now moving forward quickly and cutting towards the inside.  Gap of two back to Christmas Brit, Lucky Folk Art four side and a clear shot down the lane, Von Kloof still hugging the rail, then a gap back to the trio of Omega Glory, Cafe Nativo next to that one, Nevski widest of that group and No Tears For A Clown still at the rear.

Now inside the final furlong and you could tell that this one was going to be a close one as five lengths covered the field – Full Mast now had a face full of Babolat Carneyman moving forward four wide Techfluence full of run and trying to find a lane, Voon Kloof from the rail, Christmas Brit closing late… and as they went under the wire, it was dirt, silks and horseflesh in a blur, and the PHOTO sign was illuminated on the tote-board.  After examining the photograph, Techfluence got to the wire first with a huge late push.  Babolat was second, with Carneyman third.  Von Kloof slipped up the rail to get the fourth spot, then tiring pace-setter Full Mast, Christmas Brit, Nevski in seventh, Omega Glory eighth,  Cafe Nativo, No Tears For A Clown in tenth and Lucky Folk Art closed this one out.

Techfluence is a 2yo bay colt by Techno – Bad Incluence, by London Fog, and he was bred in TX by his owner, The Sidley Stud.  This was his second win from three starts and his first black-type win.  He now shows $69.790 in earnings.  Congrat’s to Techfluence and The Sidley Stud!
