The Monomoy Girl
1 1/16 Miles Dirt Stake Purse $175.00 Fillies Three-Year-Olds. At CD
The Monomoy Girl looks like a tight battle between four lightly raced three-year-old fillies. I’m thinking Black-Eyed Susan Stakes winner Alydar Stables’ Facts Of Love with a slight advantage over Martyparty’s Malibu Cracker which has won four of her five lifetime starts. Then there’s Noblepark’s Boardwalk Freak which has never been off the board in six starts and just tearing up graded stakes and finally Mb Stables’ Undisputed Edge which is very promising off a maiden win. Here’s the field:
Horse Owner Odds SRF
Facts Of Love Alydar Stables *3-1 96
Malibu Cracker Martyparty 3-1 97
Boardwalk Freak Noblepark 7-2 95
Undisputed Edge Mb Stables 4-1 88
Wicked Appeal The Sidley Stud 5-1 94
Bubble Bath Maxmillion Farm 10-1 95
Quiet Heat The Sidley Stud 12-1 90
1 Quiet Heat The Sidley Stud 90
Quiet Heat started her life quite successfully with a quick win at second asking followed by third in the $150.00 Busanda at AQU and the $125.00 Suncoast Stakes at TAM. However, things cooled off when she came up short in the $250.00 VA Oaks and then changed tactics for the $100.00 Serenas Song Stakes which went even worse. Now she has to look to get back in form.
2 Bubble Bath Maxmillion Farm 95
Bubble Bath is the veteran in this race with all of eleven lifetime races. I have to toss the last race out in that it was 5 1/2 furlongs on turf which is hardly comparative to this race. Back one and we get a decent third place finish in the very important $300.00 Bourbonette Oaks. Fairly back down in my handicap, but I would never overlook a Maxmillion Farm horse anywhere, they are just too savvy.
3 Wicked Appeal The Sidley Stud 94
Wicked Appeal has won half of her six lifetime races. Thing is they’re not stakes caliber. This will be her first stakes attempt. So, OK, she’s a novice… but there are some significant factors to consider for her: her SRF numbers keep going up, latest one up five points; and an impressive string of mile works topped by the most recent 1:37 1/5H. Oh, yeah, there’s always superstition: so far, she has won every other race, and this time is win time.
4 Facts Of Love Alydar Stables 96
Facts Of Love scored a nice stalker win in the Grade II Black-Eyed Susan Stakes after running second in the Grade II SA Oaks in a wire-to-wire battle. Only seven starts for this young lass and she’s been first or second in five of those starts and looks very much the future of filly and mare dirt racing for a while to come. She looks very versatile, already winning wire-to-wire and as a stalker and even showed off while coming up short as a deep closer.
5 Malibu Cracker Martyparty 97
Malibu Cracker’s past performance says she’s right there at the wire. She has won four of her five starts and was second in the other. Most interesting is the difficulty level in her recent wins. Her SRF numbers have been going up with most every win, significantly her last win in the $100.00 Serenas Song Stakes was an eight-point jump in SRF’s.
6 Undisputed Edge Mb Stables 88
In her second start, Mb Stables was impressed enough with Undisputed Edge to place her in the Grade II GP Oaks. Now, I know that Dan likes to throw horses from his second line into stakes races to fill his three, but the fact is she finished fifth beaten only one length in that race and then came right back to score a hard-fought maiden win in a WO maiden.
7 Boardwalk Freak Noblepark 95
Another young, consistent monsterette, Boardwalk Freak has started six times and hit the board all six times. Three straight thirds in Graded stakes races, including three-quarters of a length third behind my top choice Facts Of Love in the Grade II Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, and this one is a deep closer. If this race should develop a speed duel up front, it could be a slight surprise… very slight surprise since been in the money six times by closing.
