NY Stallion Series- Joy ($150.00 Purse)
AQU- For Fillies Three Years Old Foaled In NY
Six Furlongs on the Turf
June 13, 2026
It’s mostly a pretty quiet weekend on the stakes front as we still recover from the TC reaching it’s conclusion at SAR last week. The Big A has opened its doors, sadly for the final time at the end of the month. Before we get there, we will have a moment of Joy, as this NY Stallion Series race, a turf sprint for three year old fillies, takes place. It’s a race that first appeared in 2007 at BEL and was held there until the track closed for its upgrades. 2025’s race was won by Asgar’s Cunning Stunt, a still active filly that has not raced since last October. We’ll have six in the field this year, and here’s a look at them!
1- Ice Barbie (La Canada Racehorses, ridden by J Rosario)- Comes into the race with the most impressive resume, with four wins in six career starts, while also being three for four in turf sprints. Her last two races are strong efforts in Grade 3’s: second in The Limestone Turf Sprint at KEE and winning the Senorita Stakes at SA. Her 98 and 97 SRF’s for the wins are the highest of any of the figures produced by the six runners here. There are no other stake winners, graded or ungraded, in this field. Safe to say we’re picking her to win?!
2- Bella Ballerina (Jireh, ridden by Jam Rodriguez)- Making her fourth career start here, and it is her stake debut. Her lone win came at BTP this March, and she followed that up by running second at PRX, showing she can handle stronger competition. Placed fourth against older horses at CD last month, and her 95 SRF is the closest to what has been earned by Ice Barbie.
3- Dark Peel (Our Athletes, ridden by F Prat)- Last month, after running sixth in the Gazelle, Dark Peel tried her hand at a turf sprint last month for the just the second time, running here in an optional claimer. She had plenty of experience on the grass, but had been running long with one exception. That previous race was also a win, so when she won here last month, her record improved to 2-for-2 in turf sprints. She’s certainly earned this opportunity.
4- Used Less (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by R Santana Jr)- The trainer has been committed to statebred racing with Used Less, as all but an attempt at the Grade 3 FL Oaks are with this condition. She’s won twice over eleven starts, with the most recent victory coming here in a turf sprint in January. Overall, you can count on her being near the front, as other than the FL Oaks, she has never finished out of the top four. Likely the one Ice Barbie is most concerned about.
5- And We Danced (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by L J Luzzi)- This filly has done all her dancing in NY-bred races, and all but one of her five starts have come here at the Big A. She has just her maiden win right now, but just missed out in the $135.00 East View in February. One more thing that all of her starts have in common is that they have been on the main track, but the trainer has been preparing her for the move to the grass over her last couple works.
6- Sims (Royalty Stables, ridden by K Carmouche)- We don’t know a lot about Sims yet, as this is only her third career start. Made her debut in a small field at TUP and placed second before heading out to TAM and breaking her maiden at the start of March. Works very well, and whatever the trainer has been waiting for to bring her back out there may prove worthwhile. She’s a wild card in here that I would not rule out.
Prediction: 1-4-3-6
