Autumn Miss Stakes (Grade 3)- $100.000 Purse
SA- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile on the Turf
October 27, 2018
Finishing fourth in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf one year ago meant that expectations would be high for Daliterri Girl as a three year old. However, that would not be how this season ended up going. She would not race again for former trainer Hawaiian Shirt Guy, as she’d be sold to Our Athletes in mid-December for $100.000. In February, she made her return to the track and the performance was considerably disappointing. After an allowance win, she got another graded chance, and once again finished up the track. Her last three races now show a career resurgence, and perhaps she will start living up to some of those expectations she had one year ago. For now, she and trainer Our Athletes will celebrate a win in the small Grade 3 event. It’s the first win for the trainer, but for jockey F Prat, it is his second straight win in the race. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:33.56, the third fastest in the stake’s history, and second quickest if you exclude the one race held at HOL in 2010. Let’s take a look at it!
(1/4 Mile- :23.38)- It is a rather steady start for the entire field, though emerging with the lead as they moved into the turn is Southern Sky, from Our Athletes, doing so from the outer most starting spot. The lead becomes a length and a half as they prepare to enter the first turn, and Southern Sky has her stablemate and eventual winner, Dalitierri Girl in that spot right behind her. Blonde Art is another length back for First Class Stable. The two trailers would be Lancashire Hotpot (Blazin D) and Queen Nebulae (Gdp Inc), and they ran side by side, just four and a half lengths off the lead themselves.
(½ Mile- :46.72)- The second quarter of the race sees more separation with the field from front to back. Southern Sky is continuing to show the way, running a similar time for this portion of the race, and she still has her stablemate behind her. Daliterri Girl, on lasix for the first time here, patiently stalks the leader from two lengths back. Further, we start the see a gap as Blonde Art has now fallen into the clutches of Lancashire Hotpot, and they are four and a half lengths from the front. The longshot, Queen Nebulae, has yet to assert herself.
(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)– We don’t see much change in how the field runs as they conclude the backstretch portion, but as they move into the turn, both Daliterri Girl and Lancashire Hotpot show their intentions to move forward. Southern Sky still leads at this point, but the advantage has shrunk to a length, as Daltierri Girl prepares to go by to her inside. However, Our Athletes could not be completely comfortable here, as Lancashire Hotpot had made up considerable ground in the turn, and was now just a length and a half behind Daliterri Girl. Blonde Art was trying to keep pace with them, but her rivals were looking a little too quick for her. Queen Nebulae still trailed, and was not looking like she was about to get involved.
(Finish-1:33.56)- It does not take long in the stretch for Daliterri Girl to move to the inside of Southern Sky and take over the lead, but her bigger concern was Lancashire Hotpot. K J Desormeaux rode that one well on the rail, and she kept gaining and gaining on the leader, but Daliterri Girl was showing that heart and desire was a part of her repertoire. It became a pretty close finish, but in the end, Daliterri Girl just holds on over Lancashire Hotpot to get the big win. Southern Sky stayed within a length of them, and that is good enough for third. Blonde Art was even with the leaders in the stretch, but could not make up ground she conceded early. Queen Nebulae brings up the rear.
About The Winner: Daliterri Girl, trained by Our Athletes, and ridden to victory by F Prat, is a three year old filly by Daliterri and is out of the late Laffin Intern. That makes me a slight part of the connections! She was bred in the great breeding state of Pennsylvania by Hawaiian Shirt Guy, and acquired by Our Athletes in December for $100.000 via private sales. Congratulations to all of the connections! The win is her fourth in 13 starts, her second stake win, and her first graded win. Her career earnings are now $305.300.
