Kilroe Mile (Grade 1)- $400.000 Purse
SA- For Four Year Olds and Upward
One Mile on the Turf
March 6, 2021
At this time last year, Anoush Command was making an impression as one of the top contenders to win the KYD. Now, this colt is looking to do the same this year as he moves to the grass. In the Grade 1 Kilroe Mile, Anoush Command would score his second win in three races against top level competition. His trainer continues to be Fractious, who has done a great job transitioning him from the main track to the turf, and it is another big win in his pocket on Saturday. It is the first time that both he, and jockey R Bejarano, have won the race. It was run in a time of 1:32.76, which is among the better winning times in the race’s history. Here’s a look at it!
(¼ Mile- :24.04)- Anoush Command does not waste any time, and goes right to the front from his outside post for trainer Fractious. His lead is a length over a five wide group behind him for second place. They are lined up nearly in a straight line across the track, and from inside to outside, consist of Ohtani (Sccj Stables), Show Shocker (Maxmillion Farm), Commander Wellesley (Jive Inc), Winchester (Maxmillion Farm), and Feathers Not Dots (Night Rider Stables). Another four wide row is lined up in perfect form behind them, and from inside to outside, this is Going Gone (John Henry), Dead Madness (John Henry), Technic (Fractious), and Concerto Of Eggs (TwinTowersRacing). Trailing a length behind them are Rules Are Madness (Angelos Stable) and Immoral (Mb Stables).
(½ Mile- 47.51)- Some horses break out of the perfect formation that they were in early in the backstretch, with Show Shocker looking to take over the top spot momentarily from the inside, but would not force the issue as Anoush Command did not want to give it up. He backed off, and then Commander Wellesley looked to be the next challenger, and that one would be second after half a mile. Concerto Of Eggs moved up along the outside to be fourth, with Feathers Not Dots within a half length. Ohtani and Winchester lost some ground in this portion, as others were content to hold their line.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Anoush Command handles the turn really well and looked like he was going to pull away from Commander Wellesley. He’d emerge at the top of the stretch with a half length lead as Commander Wellesley tried to fight back on exit of the turn. A big loser in the turn was Show Shocker, falling to the middle of the field. Ohtani became resurgent, and moved into the third position, but had two lengths to make up. Concerto Of Eggs began to drop out, and it was time for Feathers Not Dots to make his move. Going Gone was inching forward a little bit, though there was not much else to speak of, otherwise.
(Finish- 1:32.76)- In the stretch, it’s all Anoush Command. He has plenty left to hold his lead, and keeps Commander Wellesley to his inside, and needing to settle for the second position. Both of these horses ran a strong race, and there was not much that went on behind them. Ohtani is the best of the rest in third, beating Going Gone and Feathers Not Dots. Almost two lengths to the rest of the field, which were mostly all lined up. The final order is Show Shocker, Dead Madness, Winchester, Technic, Rules Are Madness, Concerto Of Eggs and Immoral.
About The Winner- Anoush Command, trained by Fractious and ridden to victory by R Bejarano, is a four year old colt by Command Attention, and is out of Anoushka. He was bred by Serenity Stables as a first quarter two year old, and acquired by Fractious in private sales for $950.000 in February 2021. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his sixth in 18 starts, and his third Grade 1 win. His career earnings are now $1,980.200.
