Simpson Stakes (Grade 2)- $600.000 Purse
KD- For Three Year Olds
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
September 10, 2022
The running of the Simpson Stakes would kick off a day of great racing at KD, as a field of fourteen went to post of the race. Starting almost all the way to the outside would be Creepy Rocky Party, a horse that was on good form coming into the race. He would not be among my picks, though, as I had doubts about him starting from this post and possibly being caught on the outside around the turn, given his running style. Those concerns would not matter at all as this talented gelding for Mb Stables ran the way he always runs and took home a two length victory! It’s the second win in the race for the trainer, who won last year as well. Mario Gutierrez was along for the ride, and it’s his first win in the race. Congratulations to them! The winning time, on the turf course listed as good, was 1:14.92. Let’s take a look!
(1/4 Mile- :22.92)- Creepy Rocky Party is shot out of the starting gate for Mb Stables and is quickly able to clear the rest of the field and move over to the rail after a furlong. Just like that, any concern about him being wide for the turn was gone as he took a length lead over his closest competitors. One of the other outside starters was second here as Hollywood Rivalry and in the third lane for Acber Farms. This was a three wide group of stalkers that had Maxmillion Farm’s Commander Chai on the rail and Inspector Legrasse in the middle for Acber Farms. Almost a length behind them, and in the fourth lane, was Mb Stables’ Norski Raider. In the middle of the field, it is three wide between Mako (Arindel) on the rail, Whoa Bo (Maxmillion Farm) in the middle, and Electile Dysfunction (TwinTowersRacing) on the outside. Show Me How To Live (Mo Mentum Farm) is next, then the rest are five wide across the track. From inside to outside, this is Training Wheels (Gdp Inc), Golden Authority (Asgar), Storming Home (Mb Stables), Pride In The Ride (Asgar), and Sleepy Sunday (Rampage Stable).
(½ Mile- :45.76, Top Of Stretch, 2F To Go)- They move around the turn, and Creepy Rocky Party continues to hold the lead without being challenged in any way. It’s a two length lead now, over Commander Chai and Hollywood Rivalry, but they have only lost ground within the turn. So, too, was Inspector Legrasse, and Norski Raider wasn’t going up to challenge his stablemate. Further back, there were no signs of anyone making a move, quite frankly, so things were looking very good for the leader. There was a lane on the rail for Mako to come on through, but as of now, Mako had not made the push, and was five lengths from the leader.
(Finish- 1:14.92)- Well, that was easy. Creepy Rocky Party has very little difficulty, and based on how things went for him, I wonder if he even realized this wasn’t a workout. There wasn’t a horse within a length of him all race long as he goes on to an easy and comfortable victory. Otherwise, we were just racing to complete the exacta, and Mako did use the lane available to him to move through the rest of the field and cause the exacta to have to be split between he and Commander Chai, who dead heat for the spot. It’s another length to Hollywood Rivalry. Didn’t talk about about the rest much here, but that’s because this is because you’d be hard pressed to realize many of the others were even in the race. The rest of the order is Norski Raider, Whoa Bo, Training Wheels, Show Me How To Live, Inspector Legrasse, Electile Dysfunction, Sleepy Sunday, Golden Authority, Storming Home, Pride In The Ride.
About The Winner- Creepy Rocky Party, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by Mario Gutierrez, is a three year old gelding by Cocky Rocky, and is out of the late Who Creeps. He was bred by Martyparty in Louisiana as a second quarter two year old, and acquired by Mb Stables, in December 2021, in private sales for $70.000. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fifth in eleven starts, his third stake win and second graded win. His career earnings are now $585.800.
