SA Derby – Grade I
1 1/8 Miles Dirt Graded Stake Purse $500.000 Three-Year-Olds. At SA
1st Silver Hurricane Mb Stables 5-1 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)
In my preview, I had this as a battle between favoured Blooming Attack and Silver Hurricane, but as it turned out, Blooming Attack didn’t show up while Silver Hurricane went wire-to-wire in a handy quarter-length victory for the Mb Stables’ contingency, By now, I reckon Dan, himself has lost track of how many qualified for the KYD he has and he’s getting his golden tipped darts out for the final cull.
2nd Magic Fighter Maxmillion Farm 23-1 (HRP) 12-1 (SRF)
Well, the change in tactics worked for Magic Fighter as Maxmillion Farm’s trainer chose to return to tactics closer to his run in the Grade II San Vicente Stakes, and he came in a close stalk that closed in a little throughout the race right down to the wire where he fell a quarter-length short of the win.
3rd Sweet N Spicy Mb Stables 9-1 (HRP) 8-1 (SRF)
Mb Stables’ least likely, Sweet N Spicy provided his usual deep close which timed better than usual and launched him into third place finish at the wire.
4th Excavate Acber Farms 24-1 (HRP) 6-1 (SRF)
Outrun from the opening of the gate, Excavate was still eleventh when the field entered the stretch and charged down the lane with all the ambition he could muster and caught up to within a length of third.
