1st      Terafunk                Maletto                 58-1 (HRP) 8-1 (SRF)

Here’s what I said about Terafunk: I don’t know if the trainer believes the gelding was responsible or not, but he put him in this race. Gelded him, and he proceeded to win two races bigger than anything he has ever tackled. Geeze, this is embarrassing. I have long been anti-gelding maintaining that you could never know if the horse would have developed on its own. But I look at this development, and the only explanation I can see is: gelding. Here, Terafunk came away from the gate stalking the leaders very closely from fourth until the top of the stretch where he began his move, gaining position down the stretch until he was drawing clear at the wire.

2nd      Speedy Flight       Invicta Group Llc                19-1 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)

Speedy Flight. Ran off a couple of thirds and a maiden win that caught the attention of Invicta Group Llc which led to them purchasing him from Spankys Barn for $25.00, which turned into a bargain buy as Invicta Group picked up a second place in a LS allowance which convinced them to enter back here in NY and she came to SAR and completely changed her running style. In her last two races, she was a complete speed freak. Here she laid back sixth out of eight all the way to the stretch and then unleashed a powerful stretch run that fell three-quarter length short of victory in Speedy Flight’s first stakes race

3rd      Ethereum Hack                     Family Racing                9-2 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)

The folks at Family Racing must be feeling pretty good: their $4.50 horse, Ethereum Hack, just finished third in a $150.00 stakes race. He’s been showing some promise as a spectacular deep closer and a consistent one. This time was no less spectacular than his second at MTH. Memories of RL Silky Sullivan. I saw him run third at Santa Anita with Willie Shoemaker in the boot. Anyway, Ethereum Hack was dead last from starting gate to stretch and missed second by a nose.

4th      Usain Colt                  Aer Stables                        4-1 (HRP) 3-1 (SRF)

Usain Colt ran fourth. Fourth always has a negative sound to it, but how would it sound if Usain Colt ran second? Well, that finish was a bloody scramble. He finished two noses away from second. It’s just another excellent attempt by a gelding with a promising future. He forced the pace from the get-go, was right there at the wire still forcing the issue when the deep closers came and squeezed into the photo.
