As Good A Field As You Could Get for The PEN Mile

The PEN Mile – GII

PEN Race 20 1M – Turf

Three Year Olds

Eight three year olds have been entered up for this years running of the grade two Penn Mile here at Penn National. A big three year old turf race here and some nice horse have come through this race. Let’s take a peek at the field.

1. Kowloon City (8-3-0-1 $118.440), trained by Nakamura Stables

Coming into this race off of a stakes win right here and he is coming into this race off of a win in the Singletary Stakes. He broke through in that race but not sure if that was a fluke or not. He’ll have to run another big race.

2. Grandstand Jockey (11-4-1-2 $584.800), trained by Night Rider Stables

A switch back to the turf right here after a very nice win in the Day Mile at Churchill on Derby day. He has been running well on the dirt and not sure why the switch back to grass. I think he will have a good chance to win in here.

3. Hammerfest (8-5-0-0 $147.980), trained by Smokey Stover

A pretty freaky winner two starts back but he has not been able to win his two starts against open stakes company. He is very talented and I think he could win this but he will have to run a big race to win.

4. Bold Express (6-3-0-1 $397.600), trained by Mb Stables

First for Mb Stables in here and he is coming into this race off of a win in the grade two American Turf at Churchill. He ran very great that day and I think he will have a very good chance to come back and win again.

5. Kimura (7-6-1-0 $951.200), trained by Mb Stables

Other Mb Stables horse and the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner from last year. He has only ever lost once and he is a very talented runner for sure. I think him and his stablemate could go first and second in here.

6. Personal Beliefs (10-3-2-1 $400.000), trained by Maxmillion Farm

And now to this horse who is going to be making his first ever start on the grass in here. He was on the Derby trail early this year and even won a points race. Works are strong but unknown on the surface in a race.

7. Encore (7-1-2-2 $74.050), trained by Keikowin Racing

Next up and this runner is coming into this race off of two stakes placings in a row in some minor stakes. He has been running well but can’t win a stake for some reason. Tough field here and he will have to have his running shoes on.

8. Hollywood Estrella (8-3-2-1 $850.260), trained by Estero Farms

Another Breeders Cup winner from last year and he won the Juvenile Turf. He is coming off of a narrow defeat from Kimura in the San Francisco Mile. Tough post at the mile distance but he is very capable of winning this.

9. Big Aspirations (5-1-1-0 $56.560), trained by Fractious

Scratched

Summary

Well a very nice and intriguing field here with two Breeders Cup winners and some other graded stakes winners. Mb Stables looks poised for a one-two finish but watch out for Estero Farms runner also. Good luck to all in the field.
