Gigafemme entered the Grade 1 Ballerina looking promising, winning the Grade 2 Chicago Stakes at CD in her prior start, and showing that she could win big races. Now, she can add the Ballerina to her resume, clinching her spot in the BC F & M Sprint and simply earning a big win for trainer Big Guns Stables.

Here’s the Field for This Year’s Travers
For years, the Travers has been one of the biggest races of the year, attracting the best three year olds in virtual racing to SAR for a large purse. That will continue this year, but you have to wonder if this will be the last year that the Travers runs as we know it now. Eight Look for a Victory Dance in The Ballerina
It is time for the biggest day of the SAR meet, but before we get to the Travers we have to talk about some of these fantastic races on the undercard as they are stakes that could more than highlight any other race day on their own. The Grade 1, $500.00 Ballerina is certainly one of those as it is the first of three “win and you’re in” races for the BC Fillies & Mares Sprint.

Luttrell Holds Off Niagra Thunder to Win The Green Flash Handicap
With a BC spot on the line, Luttrell was happy to be returning to the starting gate to do what he does best, sprinting on the turf, in the Grade 2 Green Flash Handicap. His last two times running five furlongs resulted in wins, but he had not done that since February.

BC Turf Sprint Spot on the Line in The Green Flash Handicap
The Green Flash Handicap is the second of three automatic qualifying races for the BC Turf Sprint. We already had the $500.00 Jaipur in June, and will await the $1,750.00 KD Turf Sprint which will come two weekends from now. The purse for this race pales in comparison to those two, as “just” $200.00 is up for grabs.

Suicide Pact Comes Up Big in Mahony
On Sunday at SAR, we had a field of seven three year olds looking to pick up a Grade 3 win in the running of the Mahony, and it seemed like a pretty balanced field. Therefore, it was not a surprise that only two lengths would separate first from last when they ultimately hit the wire.

Open Invitation Is Crowned As Kings Plate Winner
Open Invitation was the only horse in the field for The Kings Plate that ran in any of the TC races, taking part in both the PRK and the BEL though did not earn anything in those races. This still made him an appealing choice, and he would be the post-time favorite, at odds of 5/2.

Balanced Field Set to Run in Mahony
Sunday’s card at SAR is highlighted by the eighth running of the Mahony, which is a turf sprint for three year olds and this year’s version will feature the largest purse that it ever has: $225.00. This is also the second year that the race has held a graded designation, and there will be a field of seven heading to the starting gate looking for the top prize.

Monarchy Would Be a Fitting Winner for The Kings Plate
The annual Kings Plate up at WO gives us one of the best opportunities to watch some elite Canadian horses do battle, and it will take place again on Friday. $1,000.00 will be on the line, and we have seen on some great winners in the past, going back to Rancho Ruler and Vouvray in the old days to Anoush Command more recently.
