  • Eight to Do Battle in The Ticonderoga

Saturday will feature a handful of races for NY-breds at BEL to keep us busy as we await the BC next weekend out west. Among those races is the 19th running of the Ticonderoga, a race for NY-bred fillies and mares on the grass.

  • Aligned Hopes to Rebound in The Empire Distaff

With a week to go before the Breeder’s Cup, most of the excitement in virtual racing centers around what we might see at DMR over that weekend. That does not mean that we still don’t have good races going right now, and at BEL we see plenty of good opportunities for New York breds.

  • Dan Patch Enjoys the Shorter Distance in Hendrie Stakes

There were several interesting stories in the Hendrie Stakes this year, given that many different paths were taken prior to getting to this race. The question would be which one of them would prevail, and we would get our answer on Saturday. The race would be won by Dan Patch, a horse that was last seen going ten furlongs and finishing poorly in the Alabama.

  • Nevada Silver Takes The Hill Prince Crown

Last month in the Grade 3 Saranac up at SAR, Nevada Silver struck gold by going wire to wire in the race for his first graded stake win. It was a close finish, and one of the horses he narrowly defeated was Flesh Of My Flesh. These two would have a rematch, and once again it would be Nevada Silver pulling off of the win.

  • Looking for Future Gold in Hendrie Stakes

It might seem late for the Hendrie Stakes, as this race which is normally run in June will be going to post in 2021 here in late October! It’s $150.000 purse has been restored this year after running for $25.000 less for the four previous years. As we often see in a race like this, there is some good variation in the paths that have been taken by the horses leading into the race.

  • Nine Go to Post for The Hill Prince

After running at a mile last year, for the first time since 2013, The Hill Prince returns to its nine furlong distance for the 2021 edition. The race also runs a little later this year, so while this has been a race that could send horses into the BC Turf with greater frequency, that may have affected the quality of the field a little bit.

  • Perfect Secrets Wins NY Breeders Futurity at 23/1

After finishing fourth in the Aspirant Stakes, missing by three lengths, Perfect Secrets was gelded later in the day. This would be his first race as a gelding, something that can often go a long way, and it certainly did not hurt his case here in the NY Breeders Futurity as he picked up his second career win.

  • Buckingham Palace Rules Over The Sands Point

There were not any real surprises in the Sands Point, as the two horses that figured to lead the way, Buckingham Palace and Juicy stepped up and did exactly that. Buckingham Palace would come into the race with five wins in nine starts, but was still looking for the graded victory that she could put on her resume.

  • FL Is On Fire for The NY Breeders Futurity

We get two rarities on Monday, the first of which being a big race on a Monday that is not part of a three day weekend, and the second being a chance to come to and cover a race from Western New York. The NY Breeders Futurity, held at FL, is a terrific opportunity for up and coming New York breds to show their abilities.

  • Sands Point Draws Six But Has No Clear Favorite

A field of six will be going to post for the 17th running of the Sands Point, a Grade 2 race for three year old fillies.
