The 13th Running of the Broadway Stakes

NY-bred fillies and mares will take center stage at AQU on Sunday in the $100.000 6-furlong Broadway Stakes. Four of the five signed-on at the minimum impost with only Hollywood Phooey carrying 125 pounds. The Broadway looks to be pretty straight-forward, so let’s meet the field:
#1 Dirty Storm (Arindel/M. Franco 123): 4yo filly has been competitive in open company, but she returns to the NY-bred ranks for this. Form for this one changed with the weather as her results started to cool as the temperatures dropped. Rail filly was last seen running 3rd in a $100.000 GP stake and will look to stalk-and-pounce. If she improves off of the last effort, she can contend in this spot.
#2 Sin City Foul (Asgar/J.A. Vargas Jr 123): Early November claim has a pair of 2nd place finishes in open N1X allowances for the new barn and will get a serious class test here. 5yo appears to be a bit pace-compromised as she will likely drop and try to make one run. Hasn’t seen the likes of these in any of her prior efforts and will need to show more if she is to be competitive.
#3 Hollywood Phooey (Sunny J Farm/J. Lezcano 125): High weight of the field due to her score in December at this same level. 5yo was 3rd in her most recent attempt at this level and the outside horse in here was just in front of her that day. She is another that looks to make one run; however, she seems to have a better handle on when she needs to unleash her rally. The impost doesn’t help, and she will need someone to challenge the five horse early if she hopes to catch her this time.
#4 Di Foxi (La Canada Racehorses/D. Davis 123): 5yo mare tried this same level at SAR back in August and made no impact. She’s had five consecutive board finishes at the starter allowance level since, including a win in her last appearance. She looks to sit a decent trip as she will probably be on the outside of the 2nd flight but may need to take the initiative to pressure the speed herself if she hopes for better fortune than what she received the last time she tried this level.
#5 Bad Senorita (Luz International/M.J. Luzzi 123): 6yo appears to hold all of the cards in regard to how the race will be run. She should be able to dictate things on the front end and may not have to go all that fast to do so. Shortens back to six panels here and while she only has a single win sprinting, she looks very tough. A huge threat to take them all on a merry chase.
Final Analysis: 5-1-3 in a Broadway Stakes that looks to be a perfect setup for Bad Senorita. Good luck to all!
