Blue Finn entered the FHBPA Sprint on a two-race winning streak, which included the $100.00 Thomas Memorial Stakes in his last start. That would earn him a two pound weight disadvantage, but many were not deterred by that, as he would be the post-time favorite, as well as being our pick to win. The five year old gelding by Candlestick would back up that support by capturing the FHBPA Sprint by half a length. This means that the distinction of being the first winner of the race will go to trainer Luz International and jockey J Rosario. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:15.01. Let’s take a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :22.76)- Heading down the backstretch, Big Enchilada, who’s trained by Arindel, will be our initial race leader. He runs between two horses who are within a length of him. To his inside, Moratans Reject is second for Onlineracingclub.com, while the Night Rider Stables- trained Indian River King runs third on the outside. It’s about a length from him to our eventual winner from Luz International, Blue Finn, who utilizes the lane right behind Big Enchilada. To his outside, The Sidley Stud’s Party Jet runs fifth, then it’s another length to the two trailers, Black War (Axeman) and Golden Missile (Spb Racing).

(½ Mile- :45.91, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)– The top three would continue to run together as they entered the turn. Blue Finn would not challenge them quite yet, and was about a length and a half back still from them at this stage of the race. The turn would prove to be too much for leader Big Enchilada as he started to call it a day, and this would leave Indian River King to take over the top spot while running three wide. Moratans Reject was still within a length, and these two looked to finish this off and battle one another for the win. Blue Finn made some progress on them, and was certainly positioned well to make a move in the stretch, but he had not begun his winning push as of yet. Party Jet was also in a good spot while on the outside. Black War and Golden Missile were not too far back, but still needed to get by them all.

(Finish- 1:15.01)- With a furlong to go, Blue Finn was making steady progress, and was about to pass Moratans Reject, but a little more work would be needed to catch Indian River King, a horse that was enjoying his return to the main track. Getting closer to the wire, Blue Finn continued to get closer, and would catch Indian River King and go on to win by a half a length. Indian River King prevails in a second place photo with Black War, who began his push too late but still gets third. Party Jet is fourth, with Moratans Reject kept out of purse money in fifth. The final two are Golden Missile and Big Enchilada.

About The Winner- Blue Finn, trained by Luz International and ridden to victory by J Rosario, is a five year old gelding by Candlestick and is out of Boundary Bay. He was bred in Florida by Luz International as a third quarter two year old and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his sixth in 18 starts, and his third stake win. His career earnings are now $353.11.
