Brave Companion Lives Up to His Name from Wide Gate in Breeders Futurity

Breeders Futurity – Grade I [BC] [KYD]
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $400.000 Open 2 Year Olds.

1st Brave Companion Nakamura Stables Franco G

I got a bit wrong in this race when i reviewed it but there were a few things that were pretty assured and that was that 4 lengths would cover the field and that this horse needed every ounce of the Nak Factor to overcome the draw. 8 wide going into bend one and 5 wide coming out of it this horse worked overtime to get into a winning position but it was that work that paid off as he worked his way to the front ran 3 wide round the home bend and still had enough to win by three quarters of a length. This was a big performance and puts him right into the BC picture wherever he ends up being drawn.

2nd= Sports Page Aer Stables Saez G

A switch in tactics saw a very good run from this son of Charley Farley who backed up his front running third in the DMR Futurity with a midpack finish today for one place better. He will get into the BC after this and will carry the stables hopes with plenty of confidence.

2nd= Grande Geek Mb Stables Beschizza A

Whilst the winner was aggressively placed to get on the speed this one that was drawn a little wide settled back a little just like he had in his last three races. He got home really well though forcing the dead heat for second and earning himself a spot in the BC too. Draw may be key in November for this one but with a decent gate i can see him being right in it.

4th Into Pieces Mb Stables Gaffalione T

It is a shame that despite three good efforts in graded stakes this one will struggle now to get into the BC picture. Running on with the pack he ended up fourth just a length off the winner. His time will come.
