Breeders Stakes Would Be Tough for Poirot to Call

Breeders Stakes
WO   Race #2   1 1/2m   Turf   Stake
Purse $400.000  For Three Year Olds Foaled In Canada.

1  Great Bounty    Drabfantasy    Contreras L

He broke his maiden in emphatic style at the start of the year and was then tested in gradually tougher company as the season progressed. A good third in the Shakertown over a sprint trip on a wet track was not enough to convince his trainer that he was a sprinter and in the summer he took him to routes taking out the Plate Trial Stakes on dirt before a decent effort in the BEL Derby saw him finishing well from the back to be seventh. He is one of the three that have outstanding turf works here and whilst you wouldnt expect a graded stakes placed sprinter to get a mile and a half here at HRP that is more possible than it seems.

2  Nowhere Man    Mb Stables    Campbell J M

The second runner with a big turf mile work he looks to be the best horse in the race with all things added up. The winner of the Nashua on the dirt as a two year old he also ran very well in the AR Derby on the same surface when fifth beaten under a length but his trainer keeps persevering with the turf suggesting they believe him to be best on this surface. A solid run last time in the BEL Derby saw him finish in front of Great Bounty and even though i feel he may be a bit better on dirt he may well have enough class to take this out on the grass.

3  Rifleman    EasyMoney Stables   Da Silva E R

The final runner with the sub 1:35 turf mile work he is probably the best turf router in the field on achievements so far but he doesnt win that often and has a habit of losing out in tight finishes recently. He won the Dania Beach and the Palm Beach at the start of the year but has struggled just a little since despite maintaining and improving some strong turf works. He ran very well in the Kent Stakes last time  finishing like this trip will really suit him and of the three top workers in the field he may be the safest bet.

4  Ckon You Feel It    Onlineracingclub.com   Cintron A

This one looks like a real dark horse in this race. After being claimed from a ten buck maiden claimer at the start of the year he won a decent allowance on this surface before running a surprisingly good race in the Queens Plate. Its almost impossible to tell how he will do in this race but he is clearly much better than a claimer and really could be anything.

5  Unicorn                  Threshold    Ortiz J L

Stepped up in trip for a good win last time he is an improving sort but will need to improve again to beat the top three in this race. A decent work last time got him this entry and he will have a punchers chance.

6  Sweeping Dragonville   Drabfantasy    Boulanger G
Only 4 lifetime starts and one win you wouldnt think he would trouble the top three but his efforts since that maiden win have been very good. Only a nose behind Rifleman in the Dania Beach he then had that one a long way back when a one length third in the American Turf. Both those starts were on a wet track and if he gets a dry one today and improves for it he could be the one to take the win. Sixth in the Queens Plate last time just inches in front of Ckon You Feel It he adds yet another layer to this intriguing race.

SUMMARY

Well we have the top three who are more established than the outside three and have all recorded strong turf mile works then we have the outside three who all look to have more potential than the inside three. This is a real conundrum wrapped up in a mystery. On paper it looks like Nowhere Man or Sweeping Dragonville but you can’t write of any of these for very different reasons.
