Could It Be a Jockeys’ Race Again in The Lake Placid?

The Lake Placid – Grade II
SAR   Race #6   1 1/8m   Turf   Graded Stake
Purse $300.000  For Fillies Three Years Old.

1  Crown Of Light    Mb Stables    Colon L H

Bought for $275.000 by the top trainer in the game so there must be something more to be found with this filly. A great second in the BC Juvenile turf as a two year old she started off the year promisingly enough with a win at ungraded level before a battling and close third in the Appalachian. unfortunately and probably the reason Estero Farms sold her she has failed to step up on those previous efforts since, running well but without threatening the win. Like a lot of successful two year olds she looks to have stopped improving and others have caught up and overtaken her  but if there is one trainer that can find a half second it is Mb Stables.

2  Revenge    Joshua Stables    Esquivel E

She has a good record with 4 wins from 7 starts and comes back to turf after a successful forray to the dirt last time out. She ran pretty well to be fifth in the Honeymoon one start back but looks held on her turf form to date.

3  Maggie Greene    The Sidley Stud    Husbands P

This filly has a pretty average record in a busy career with 4 wins from 15 starts but she looked to improve a little in her last start when taking the ONT Colleen by a quarter length. She will need to improve again to win this but she has the ability there and isnt far behind on work times.

4  Sweet Gail    Sccj Stables    Pennington F

Well behind Crown Of Light in the BC Juvenile Turf last year she raced from a horrible draw that day and that form is probably best forgotten. She had done well without excelling this year but after changing stables she clocked up her first win of the year when taking the Eatontown last time out. That was a nice effort and the change of adds may have helped sharpen her up. She has a lively chance especially as Pennington takes the ride.

5  Hitwoman    Keikowin Racing    Smith M E

Another that was purchased from Smokey Stover she looks an improving sort however the lack of a run since early June may be against her. She put up a game effort in the Wonder Again last time out beating Crown Of Light so she certainly has a winning chance on that form and she is sure to be thereabouts down the stretch.

6  Snacks                 D J C Racing Stables   Hernandez B J Jr

This field seems to be made up of fillies that have nearly made it big and this is another example. Pretty average until the Spring of this year she ran a great race in the grade one Diana last time out to be sixth and only beaten a length. Her works are very strong and that is the best recent form in the race so on those two counts she has a great chance.

7  Conkerberry    Aer Stables    Cancel E

Yet another that came out of the Smokey Stover stable she has looked good at overnight level but has yet to make her mark in black type races. She broke 1.35 in a turf mile work in May so clearly has the ability if she can put that ability into her race form.

8  Snakie Groupie    Maxmillion Farm    Albarado R J

Its a turf route and this trainer has a great record in that sort of race so you have to look pretty seriously at this entry. A late maturing type she has been in good company this year and has run some very nice races with the exception of a very poor effort in the BEL Oaks. She has the beating of both Hitwoman and Crown Of Light on Appalachian and Wonder Again form and was a close second last time out in the San Clemente Stakes so looks in good order. The down side for her is the wide draw which could be her undoing if the wide gate speed push forces her to go too hard too soon. A winning chance if things go her way.

9  Diplomatic Command   Allinthegate    Gonzalez Ru

This is a rapidly improving type who came with an impressive last run to take the Lake George last time out. She would have a great chance with a better draw but it will be tough for her from the car park. Having said that of she goes back and stays in touch i can see her flying through late to claim the win.

SUMMARY
This is a tough race to read with no stand outs but i will stick my neck out and go for Snacks to win. Jockeys seem to have been the main difference recently so Sweet Gail and Crown Of Light may be the ones and if the wide draw can be beaten i rather like Snakie Groupie or Diplomatic Command to add some spice to the finish.
